We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaeden Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaeden, what is the most important factor behind your success?
FAITH!! One of the biggest factors behind my success thus far has been my faith. I have RADICAL faith, and there is nothing I won’t believe God for. Since I begin singing at 5 years old, I have believed God for anything that I could imagine concerning my success, and I have seen many things that I believed for come to fruition and manifest. So, it is my belief that my Radical Faith, alongside my willingness to submit to the will of God for my life, and my passionate hard work have granted me unmerited favor and success. I stand on the word that faith without works is dead because I have seen that combination work in my life. I realize that the success of me and my brand solely rests in this truth. For me the formula is simple, FAITH + “DOING THE WORK” + A WILLING HEART = UNMERITED FAVOR & SUCCESS.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Gospel Recording Artist, Songwriter, and Graphic Designer. To be my age, I have accomplished a lot in my mere 18 years of life. Back in 2016, I became one of the youngest to win a Fusion Award as a NextGen Game Changer. I have sung with some of the greatest to ever do it such as Grammy Award Winner & American Idol Taylor Hicks and American Idol Ruben Studdard. In 2016, I toured from school to school alongside Grammy Nominated songwriter Alvin Garrett. Additionally, I was one of the youngest artists to sell out the Perfect Note in Hoover, AL. for a concert featuring me. I have had many different recognitions to include being honored by the Mayor of Birmingham, AL, featured in the Birmingham News, and even a featured artist for the 99 neighborhoods summer concerts hosted by the local radio stations. I have had the opportunity to sing on lots of stages across the state and even a few around the world.
I am also a business owner of Jaeden Henderson Enterprises, LLC. which includes my music ministry, my t-shirt and sweatshirt line, and my graphic design business. I am a consistent teen leader in several endeavors for my home church Faith Chapel Birmingham, AL., and a consistent feature at my school the Alabama School of Fine Arts, just to name a few.
The most exciting part of my journey has been the growth I have experienced both musically, creatively, and spiritually due to my willingness to submit to the will of God for my life. Man, it has not been easy because there have been times that I would like to be “normal” doing what other teenagers are doing, but I realize that’s not my path and trying to walk on a path that is not mine keeps me stagnate, but walking the path God has chosen for me keeps me moving forward. So my willing submission has been worth it. I know that I have been afforded opportunities and experienced ALL of the things this far with more on the horizon because I don’t fight God’s agenda. I know for a fact that my willingness has granted me unmerited favor and that is so worth it. Favor is better than money, sometimes! From 5 years old until now, it has been evident that the hand of God has been orchestrating things in my life because there is no way any of the things I have done would be possible in my own might. My Mom nor I have never asked for me to be included in anything, but people just seek me out, so nobody can ever make be believe any different than ALL OF THIS IS ALL GOD! I have experienced joy during the evolution of my voice, my songwriting, and my creative abilities and gifts. It has been fun, sometimes stressful, but fun growing and stretching in my gifts and talents and discovering more layers to them. Getting here definitely hasn’t been easy, it has come with sacrifice, depression, highs, and lows, but it is so rewarding. God has been good to me, and I wouldn’t do anything different.
In the summer of 2021, I will release my debut album, “Release: Live” which is a collection of songs that were written by me, telling the story of how I got free from depression. In May of 2018, My cousin Jhalien Hargrove passed away in a tragic car accident, and it hurt me to the core. I was so depressed and so discouraged, but two months later in July of the same year, I heard the spirit of the Lord say to me, “Release. Release is not just a song, it’s not just a sound, but it’s a movement. A movement you will carry out in this generation.” From then on, the journey truly started as I wrote to cope with what I was feeling and desiring for myself. I truly believe this is no ordinary GOSPEL record, but it is life music. It is something for everybody on this album whether you believe in God or not. I call this record, “My Journey to Freedom,” and it is my prayer that as people listen it will become their journey to freedom as well! I am so excited for the world to hear the sound God has downloaded in me!!
If I had to share something about my brand or give someone an encouragement nugget, it would be to stay the course and keep doing the work no matter what, no matter who believes in it or not! If you know that what you are doing is a part of God’s purpose for your life, NEVER QUIT! Keep fighting! Keep the right circle of people around you! Always strive to be a better version of yourself, daily! Keep learning and growing in your gifts and talents! These things are what my brand are built on.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friends to either UPTOWN Downtown where we could hang and get some chicken from Eugene’s Hot Chicken or The Galleria located in Hoover and we would get us some soul food from Jake’s Cafe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have poured into me throughout my journey. The list starts with my Momager, Sonjanika Henderson-Green. She has sacrificed so much for me to grow my gifts and talents and for me to accept the countless opportunities afforded to me. She is and always has been right there with me for everything! She has ensured that I am well-rounded and she shares so much wisdom with me. She means the world to me, so I wanna give her a shoutout, first. Another person is my former middle school band director Joseph Smith III, the man who taught me the blues, jazz, stage presence, and so much more. He believed in me and my music so much so that he produced my very first EP, “Do the Work,” which was released to the world in 2019. I am very appreciative of him and will forever be grateful for him, his teachings, and his mentorship. These two are amongst so many people that have had an impactful influence on my journey.
