We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaeda Liddell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaeda Liddell, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
My favorite book of all time is The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. There are kids who are the survivors of a disease that either killed anyone over the age of 12 or gave them powerful abilities. The kids who survived are put into camps and lose their entire childhoods.I like it because it’s all about fighting for yourself, your own power, and forging your own way. It’s also about making friends and sticking with the ones you love no matter what. Even though they lost their parents and were forced to endure harsh conditions, they kept their hearts, spirit, and their humanity. I want to make it my goal to never lose what makes me a person no matter what happens. It impacted me because there were some real life lessons about fighting in the face of adversity and it taught me the power of believing in myself. I’ve realized that I can’t do anything or succeed at anything unless I believe that I can do it myself. I’ve also learned to accept help from others because sometimes I do need help and support and I shouldn’t reject it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a DJ for 5 years and I am most proud of the growth I have made. I went from having my dad help me DJ every time to now doing a gig for 3 hours by myself. I got here today by practice and never giving up, even during the pandemic. I always try to be myself and have energy and I think that is what sets me apart. I am not afraid to take risks, be bold, and set myself apart. The most important thing about me is that I always try to have fun so that everyone else has fun. I like lifting people up with music and letting them have the best party ever. Through all of this, I have also had to manage school and staying on top of my grades. It was difficult at first but I eventually found a balance that didn’t impact my academics. I am proud of where I am today at only 14, and I wish to continue for years to come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to the beltline in Atlanta to ride electric scooters because it’s a fun thing to do in Atlanta with friends. On the way to a restaurant, we would stop and look at the murals and graffiti because one of the best parts of Atlanta is the art. It is beautiful and diverse and it makes up the city. We would go to a restaurant that has an outdoor patio so we could watch the world go by and they could see the amazing part of the city, how diverse it is. We would then ride our scooters back to the car and go to an Atlanta Braves game at Truist Park so they could see the infamous Atlanta crowds that are unlike any city. The best part would just be hanging out with my friend and making memories. Life is boring if you don’t have someone to share it with.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been an instrumental part of my entire journey as a creative and a DJ. I would like to shout out my dad, Jonathan Liddell, who taught me everything I know about being a DJ and was a DJ himself before me. He is now my dad-ager and has helped me into the person I am today. He has taught me how to run a business, how to stay organized, how to make invoices, and how to talk to clients. He has also taught me that I should have fun and enjoy myself and the music. I also would like to shout out my mom, Lidia Liddell, because she has been a part of the journey too and always helps me look my best and be prepared. My mom is also an artist so I get my creative side from her as well. I thank both of my parents, but also my little brother for always having energy. I know he will be the next DJ in the family and he has already started messing with my equipment and playing songs. Thank you to all of my family for always supporting me.
