We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Tarsha May and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jada, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Honestly, this was never my dream job growing up. I always envisioned myself in the medical field. However, looking back on my childhood, I realised I’ve always been very creative. From choosing art in school to being on the design committee for my secondary school’s (high school) leavers jumpers, working as a hair colourist, and creating flyers for family and friends. Creativity has always been something I was drawn to. I just never thought I could make a career out of it!
It wasn’t until I was in the middle of my Psychology degree when people started enquiring about my logos, that I thought “This could be me full-time.” Thanks to my faith and support system, which pushed me to take Brand Design more seriously, from there I never looked back!
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am the creative behind Tarsha May FX, specialising in Brand Design and soon expanding into web design services. What sets me apart from others in my industry is my diverse style! I don’t believe in sticking to one design style because each business I work with is unique, with it’s own values, goals, and personality. Expanding my skills across various styles is very important to me, ensuring no style is off-limits and my clients are confident I can deliver exactly what they envisioned and more! I also value effective collaboration with all my clients. I believe that all brand identities should be designed with the perfect balance of my client’s preferences and elements that attract their target audience. Leveraging my expertise in psychology from my Degree helps me ensure all the brands I design connect authentically with their target audience, driving lasting engagement and loyalty, whilst helping businesses dominate their market with standout branding.
I’ve always had a creative streak, from choosing art as a subject in secondary school (high school) to my short time as a hair colourist. Initially, design was just a hobby during my Psychology Degree, a creative distraction from reality. It wasn’t until I was in the middle of my degree, feeling lost and knowing I didn’t want to pursue psychology professionally, that I began receiving enquiries from people willing to pay for my work. By the end of 2023, after graduating and having a heart to heart with God, I turned my hobby into a full-time business. Since then, I have had the pleasure of making friends in the same industry, who push me to be better every day, and I’ve encountered unimaginable opportunities—from working with established businesses worldwide to seeing my brand designs in real stores and products. It has been a journey full of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. My faith and relationship with God have been essential in getting me this far.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that anything is possible if you’re passionate about your field and motivated to keep showing up, even when you think no one is watching. My passion for what I do and watching businesses I’ve designed flourish into real establishments has been my motivation. Consistency, faith, and the willingness to evolve have been key lessons in my journey.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a big foodie and being from London, there are so many diverse food spots which would be the first thing on our list! The restaurants I’d recommend is any Big Momma restaurant (Italian), a small business in South London that makes the best seafood boils called Soulful Seafood. Lastly a visit to Chinatown, I love a good affordable but tasty Asian restaurant.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a big shoutout to God for blessing me with my creative gift and the determination to build this business to where it is today. My faith is one of the main things that has gotten me this far! I also want to thank all my family, especially my mother and grandmother, for having so much faith in me to continue, as well as my partner for always being there to lift me up when things got hard!
For my childhood prayerful friends along with the new ones I’ve made in the same industry, thank you all so much! Surrounding myself with like-minded women has made such a huge difference in my journey. So shout out to you guys!
Thank you all for the support, prayers, and love that has helped me reach this far!
