We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Norman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jada, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The world hit us in a blink of an eye and everyone was forced to be quarantined because of Covid-19. A lot of businesses were starting to close down because of how rapidly the virus was spreading including hair salons, nail salons, etc. Since nail salons were closing and some nail technicians do not offer pedicure services, I thought about how I can make a difference by offering a mobile pedicure service. I understood that with this service, it has to be special because I am coming into people’s homes and providing them a sacred service. During the pandemic, we were living in trying times and I just wanted to bring peace and calmness to people lives and I feel as though I can connect with them through the pedicures. Your feet are sacred and will be treated as such.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Royal Pedi Palace is a mobile pedicure service; servicing the greater Atlanta and surrounding areas. Royal Pedi Palace is unique because we believe in servicing and treating our clients like royalty while they are able to relax in the comfort of their own home while we cater and treat their feet sacredly.

What sets me apart from others in the industry is that I am a mobile pedicurist. I am continuing to learn, grow and gain knowledge regarding my business and how I can continue to perfect my craft. I spend time building a bond with my clients in comfort of their home, while they are able to unwind and relax.

I am proud of the mindset change that has came with learning and growing a business. I am proud that I was able to commit myself to going to nail school and completing 525 hours needed to get my certification in 6 months.

How did I get here today is that I sacrificed sleep to do what I love most. As a child growing up I always wanted to own a spa. I did not know in what capacity I would be able to do that in. That was until my friends in college allowed me to practice on them from time to time. Of course, life in college happens and I stopped to finish working on my degree. I always had this passion for keeping my nails and toes done and since I stopped practicing while in school, I felt like I was missing out of something that I truly enjoyed.

The lessons that I learned along the way is to have systems in place in your business, always document your journey and never be afraid to talk about your business with like minded individuals. Networking is key.

I want the world to know that it is important to have self care days where you get pampered and you are able to relax and have a peace of mind. When you have peace of mind, you get the opportunity to “think”. When you get the chance to be in your thoughts, you get the opportunity to assort and manage out tasks that needs to completed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Knowing the type of best friend I have. she would want to do something that is very chill and lowkey. We would start out by going to the Toast for brunch, then Lenox to shop. JeJu for deep tissue massages. I would then take her to The Loft to get a great workout in and Playa Bowls after for a great nutritious snack; acai bowl. We would end her mini vacation with great friendly vibes at the house with a game night with our friends from college. It’s always a great vibe with many laughs when we are altogether.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my mentor from Savannah State University, Ms. Kai Walker. I called her and talked to her about a business that I had and mind. She was interested and I began to tell her my business plan. She told me she knew I would step into my calling as an entrepreneur. My friends from college have also played a MAJOR part of my success, so I personally say thank you to Quamori, Dr. Boggs, Thelicia and Tyquanda. My father and step mom have truly been with me throughout this entire journey. It means a lot to me that they really understand my passion for pedicures and because of my passion for the craft they help to support my business. Next, I would like to thank Halani Lobdell, another mentor, for creating Bawse University were entrepreneurs can learn the proper steps of owning and scaling their business. The community of “Bawses” show up for each other and the support that is given and received is unmatched. Lastly, I want to thank my clients for sticking with me while I continue to grow and learn. Thank you!
