We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaclyn Droll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaclyn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As an introverted entrepreneur, I’ve never subscribed to the “go-go-go” mentality that often dominates the business world. There have been times when I’ve felt guilty for needing to take time alone to reset and recharge. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve pushed myself to the brink of exhaustion, believing it was just part of the entrepreneurial journey. It wasn’t until I realized how much more productive, creative, and energized I am when I give myself the time to recharge that I understood I was operating against my own natural flow. In trying to emulate others, I was neglecting the very thing that allows me to perform at my best.
Today, social media is flooded with voices dictating how to achieve business “success,” often promoting an unrelenting grind and the mantra of “sleep when I’m dead.” But I’ve come to understand that true fulfillment—both personally and professionally—requires defining success on my own terms. This means seeking out mentors, coaches, and role models who genuinely align with my values and goals, rather than simply following the loudest or most popular voices in the room.
I’ve learned to embrace my need for solitude, using it as time for creative reflection, idea generation, and recharging my energy. Just because other entrepreneurs thrive on constant hustle doesn’t mean my approach is any less valid.
I am the one steering my business, and it’s up to me to ensure it follows the path that aligns with my vision and values. Maintaining a balance that works for me is key to my long-term success and well-being.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I opened my waxing studio, my vision was clear: to create a space that filled a gap I saw in the industry. Traditionally, waxing and hair removal are often marketed as seasonal services—highlighted in the summer months or tied to occasions when others might see you. There’s also the societal pressure to remove body hair in order to conform to beauty standards, which can create feelings of shame around natural hair growth.
But for me, waxing is about self-care—a simple way to make your body feel more comfortable, not to meet someone else’s expectations. I don’t encourage waxing from a place of insecurity or embarrassment; I encourage it from a place of personal choice. This is not a service that should be limited to a certain season or occasion. It’s about cultivating a sense of comfort with your own body, no matter the time of year.
My goal is to shift the narrative around the waxing and hair removal industry, and I’ve loved every minute of it. This journey, especially through the power of social media, hasn’t been without challenges, but I’ve remained committed. I’ve learned from my setbacks, stayed consistent, and continued moving forward. Through it all, I’ve stayed true to my message: waxing is an act of self-love, and it isn’t supposed to be scary.
The community I’ve built around this message has been beautiful. The clientele that I’ve attracted isn’t just seeking a service—they’re part of a movement to redefine how we view self-care and body hair. That connection is what keeps me inspired and motivated every day.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I’m still relatively new to Atlanta, I’ve fallen in love with the city’s entrepreneurial spirit. Everywhere you turn, there are thriving businesses and unique experiences waiting to be discovered! If I had a best friend visiting, I’d love to show them some of my favorite spots around town to shop and eat.
A perfect day would start at Ponce City Market—one of the first places I visited in Atlanta and still a favorite. I love browsing the mix of shops and grabbing a quick bite. My go-to stores are Modern Mystic Shop and Glad & Young Studio, where I could easily lose track of time! For a delicious meal, I’d recommend Hop’s Chicken for some of the best chicken fingers in town—always a winner. And of course, there’s always room for dessert, so a stop at Honeysuckle Gelato for a sweet treat is a must.
Afterward, I’d head to the Atlanta BeltLine for a stroll and a good yap session. For my visitors, a trip to the Georgia Aquarium is essential—it’s always fun to see the happy sea creatures swimming around! Another must-do in Atlanta is watching a game with Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Even if you’re not a soccer fan, the energy in the stadium makes for an amazing experience.
Not to mention the farmers markets and the many cozy bookstores to explore during the quiet mornings.
And while I’m still discovering all that Atlanta has to offer, every corner I explore feels like a treat. I can’t wait to continue uncovering new gems in the area!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the past three years, I’ve immersed myself in books, podcasts, coaches, and mentors that have been instrumental in the growth of my business. Without the guidance and inspiration of these authors, hosts, and coaches, I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am today.
It’s difficult to choose just one, but The Karma of Success by Liz Tran stands out as a favorite. It was the first book I encountered that didn’t glorify hustle culture and instead gave me the permission to prioritize peace and joy in running my business. As an introvert, I’ve often felt somewhat disconnected from the broader entrepreneurial community, which tends to emphasize relentless grinding and extroverted charisma over authenticity and self-care.
Reading Liz’s book made me feel seen and understood in a way that was both validating and eye-opening. It was a pivotal moment that reminded me of the importance of surrounding myself with a community that truly supports who I am and the values I stand for. Without that realization, I might still be pushing myself to exhaustion, sacrificing sleep, and ultimately resenting the very business that was meant to provide me with freedom.
