We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackie Morin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jackie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting Wonderpuff was really Black Joy. Everything we do is under capitalism and white supremacy and I’m grateful to live in a time where many of us are decolonizing our minds and unlearning things that no longer serve us. For me, I wanted to see more grown ups have fun. We’ve been conditioned to work until we no longer can. And my generation is breaking that trauma. I figured, while we are working hard to radicalize Love and dismantle supremacy, we have to have some fun doing it. I believe adults should always have fun and experience some kind of childhood joy in our day to day journey of being human. Why not do it with some sugar?

What should our readers know about your business?
This summer we will open our first store front in Durham, NC. We will be serving organic cotton candy alongside other fun treats and colorful goodies!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take them to Durham, duh! Because this city is filled with radical folks and small businesses that Love their people. We’re getting some empanadas from Boricua Soul and walking in the forest and swimming in the Eno Lake and ending the day with a bonfire reciting our manifestations!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When it comes to recognition, since day one, we have endlessly celebrated our community for keeping Wonderpuff alive. I dedicate this shout out to our younger selves. For the days we felt incapable or stuck. For the countless amount of times when we failed and couldn’t get back up again. We send Love to our younger selves for getting us here today. Thank you for continuing to move forward even when things got to hard. You’re here now and you’ve done a brilliant job.
