We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacey Kemp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Naturally, I have an Artist heart. Since I was a little girl, I always craved creative outlets. I remember having a sketchbook. It was a black and white composition book. It was filled with different sketches of clothing ideas. I was younger at this time. It broke my little heart, when I lost that book. I would always play dress-up fashion games. I just love seeing people look nice. I love when people feel remarkable. When you look good, you feel good. My business, my brand is from my creative perspective. I like to have full creative control. A lot of times people can’t see the vision until you get there. That’s why you always have to tell your clients just trust the process. That moment of faith you gave will bring it into fruition.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
House Of The Creative Junkie used to be House Of The Makeup Junkie. I couldn’t put my creativity into one category. Even when I tried, it suffocated my other ideas. I felt like I had to stay in that one box. That’s until I realized, I’m not just a special effects makeup artist, fashion stylist, or creative director. I’m an overall creative. Why limit yourself when you don’t have to? My creativity is limitless. It’s my outlet and my safe space. It helps my social anxiety in so many ways. The fact you can speak through your work without having to say too much. It’s a beautiful thing. I started HOTCJ as a house of creative thoughts. Poured into by me. Building your dream by yourself isn’t easy. It’s like you’re the only one who can see it what it can become. What it will be. My slogan stems from me being stuck in my shell. Having that constant thought of I need to have a certain look or body type. Just so I can be successful in the industry. Fashion can be a persona or it can literally be your own personal shield. Or it can amplify who you are. HOTCJ is an experience. It’s where you trust me to bring your light out. How you can love yourself in every stage of the journey. Where you become anew and work with what you got and who you are. It’s where “Fashion is thicker than flesh” at HOTCJ.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big foodie. I’m also vegan and have been going on 10 years now. When I say I love supporting the independently own vegan spots. I mean that! I’m not big on outside activities. However, if you need somewhere to stuff your face. I’m definitely taking you to Grass VBQ Joint for some good ole vegan style barbecue. Or even stop by Slutty Vegan for the skinny dippers. Them fried pickles are off the chain. We can’t leave the city without stopping by my favorite place to create at. Playhouse Studios. Owned and ran by my favorite photographer. There’s so many dope personalized sets to choose from. Heads up if you want to order in, Mack Vegan gone hit the spot every time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, they’ve been there for me unconditionally. During my coming of age journey, I found my identity. They’ve been there through the good, the bad, and the ugly. At my highs and at my lows. I don’t have many people in my corner. I do know I have two that cherish me. They believe in my creative spirit. Part of that creative heart stems from my mom. She has showed me so much. A woman who can make something out of nothing. I don’t have a big support system or friends. I went through a rough time recently. It showed me that not everyone can love you unconditionally. However, cherish the ones that do. Cherish the ones who try, cherish the ones who cherish you.
