We had the good fortune of connecting with Jab United and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jab, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is very important in the world of branding and marketing. It’s what inspires us to do great things every day and it’s also what keeps us grounded when things go wrong.Risk taking is all a part of the game. In order to achieve specific goals or open new doors sometimes you have to take the risk and just do it. It can be scary at times, because you don’t know the outcome, however you never know unless you try.

For example, the Jouvert section in Atlanta with Madd Colors was definitely a risk as it was not only our first time doing a Jouvert section in Atlanta but we also only had a month to promote and it was foreign territory as we are not based out of Atlanta. But because we were confident and believed in ourselves to take that risk, we were able to accomplish our goal.

The most important thing when taking risks is being prepared for anything and everything that may happen so when something does go wrong (and it will from time to time), how will you handle it? Thats why it is important to maintain a positive mindset, despite the outcome. With that you put yourself in the mental space to learn as you go and learn what you can do differently each time to better yourself and your brand.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

We are an international brand specializing in various fields such as Carnival/Jouvert, event modelling and promotions and creative content. What sets us apart is our ability to make a lasting impact wherever we go, even in the smallest ways. We take great pride in leaving a memorable impression, as it aligns perfectly with our objective of building a strong brand presence.

We are thrilled about our plans to expand our Jouvert sections and merchandise over the next two years. Achieving this was not a straightforward journey, as there were challenges and a huge stump when Tommy passed away, but we remained focused and continued to push ourselves. Despite being seasoned players in the industry, rebranding ourselves, including our name, was one of the most challenging things as it required immense patience and unwavering dedication.

Throughout our journey, we firmly believe in the principle of one team, one goal. It’s crucial that everyone involved shares the same vision and commitment; otherwise, this team isn’t the right fit. Additionally, we understand the significance of fostering a positive team environment, one that radiates with energy. We believe in our brand wholeheartedly, and that positivity resonates in everyone within our team.

We’ve discovered an often overlooked aspect—the importance of prioritizing overall health amidst the demands of the entertainment world. It’s crucial to recognize when to take a step back and care for oneself. In such instances, a reliable and capable team is important to have, to ensure that tasks are still accomplished.

We want people to understand that although this vision originated from our friend/mentor, who recently passed away, our commitment to continuing with that vision is unwavering. We are here, making sure to leave our mark.
Above all, we want to emphasize that everyone should experience Jouvert at least once in their lifetime. It offers a truly unique and unforgettable experience that transcends from the ordinary. We invite everyone to be a part of our incredible journey. As Tommy always said, ” Jab Must Play “

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Jab United is not based out of Atlanta, but when we did arrive, we got the chance to visit a few places. We definitely enjoyed eating at different restaurants such as The Breakfast Boys, Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen & Bar, The Slutty Vegan and so many more. The carnival experience has definitely grown and it was great to be apart of it this year. We enjoyed going on the road with Madd Colors for both Jouvert and pretty mas, which is an experience I think everyone should try. The events surrounding Atlanta Carnival were extremely fun and something locals can enjoy as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We at Jab United will like to recognize and dedicate our shoutout to our late friend, family member, CEO, Orendiel “Tommy G aka The Jab Boss” Charles. Jab United is a continuation of our original brand Jab Army which was founded by Tommy. Tommy played an important role in building the team and before his passing, was beginning to expand on an international level. Although Tommy was the CEO, he ensured to treat everyone on the team equally and always wanted us to grow our personal brands; “Brands inside of a Brand.”

His vision was far bigger than what many could understand. He was always in support of our personal goals and never shied away from including it in the brand.

Tommy was a friend, a confidante and a mentor to all of us here at Jab United and to this we dedicate the shoutout to him. In 2018, Tommy had plans of making it to Atlanta Carnival and to see his vision come to life was more than motivating. This experience was not only an honour but an emotional one as we were nervous and definitely felt his presence every step of the way telling us “keep going”. So to see the end result of a sold out section, only brought tears to our eyes, because while it was saddening that he was no longer here with us physically, we were also happy because we know we made him proud!
