We had the good fortune of connecting with J. Anthony Grigger also known as JAG; and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J. Anthony, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There are many reasons for this. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and have my own business. It is also in my blood. I really never liked to feel caged; being told what time to go to lunch or when to leave the building to go home. I also didn’t believe the jobs that I had that were not in my passion path, appreciated or valued me.
I decided to put all the gifts God put in me to be what I was meant to be, a creative.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud for becoming a Published Author with my first poetry book in 2020 titled “Scriptures From A Gemini – I Left 4 U 2 Find – Thoughts on 6:14 Vol. 1.
I got here by always believing in God and never giving up on myself when jobs did; family spitting in my face; being called me out my name, domestic abuse, and the evils of the world that were trying to bring me down
No, it wasn’t easy but God doesn’t give easy to the mighty. I accepted that. Always leading with God and love, writing and music helped me overcome those challenges. Also, the people’s names I mentioned.
I learned blood doesn’t make you family. It just makes you blood. Treat people how you want to be treated. Love will always win. God is first. then you, then ya kid, then ya love, then ya tribe.
I want to world to know I love being a creative. I love music. My brand is literally me. It’s my turned into an acronym; JAG. All the first letters from my names. It’s all about me producing and utilizing all of my gifts. Black boys need hugs and love, Black men need hugs and love. It’s okay to step wholeheartedly in who you are. Your power grows when you let it grow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to all the places I love in music. I would do more home actives. More intimate crowd. Apache Cafe. The Trap Museum. Food wise; Big Dave’s Cheesesteak. Most like we would just ride around the city.
I would cook. I would call my tribe over to the crib make some drinks and have fun. I’m not the party guy with a bunch of strangers. Times have changed. I want to be around people I admire, love, know, and inspired by.
My view is different. I would ask what he wanted to do. If he was still alive in this world, he would probably have been to all the places with me already. We were that close.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I have to say God; without my belief and faith, I wouldn’t be anything.
My trials and tribulations within blood ties and non-blood ties. My parents. Other folks they, know who they are.
My angels that watch over me. My Nana. My best friend forever; Brian Parker.
My daughter, Jayla. Deborah Herndon. Kandance Sanders. Antonio Mincy/Hemmingw8y. MuzicNotez.com. KONTROL Magazine. Plastiq’ Magazine. Parle’ Magazine. SUAVV Magazine. Obvious Magazine. Jerris Madison. Albanus Thierry. Sommer Nicole, Imari Turk, and the KissworksStudios Fam. Andre Allen. Malik Servance. Michelle Watson, and the Michelle Watson Academy.
