We had the good fortune of connecting with Iva Red and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Iva, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I believe everyone can pursue and achieve true happiness in life doing what they truly love. My creative journey started when I was child and lasts as long as I can remember. As a kid I was mesmerized by photographs and paintings. I was into drawing and painting at first, before getting my 1st camera. I found bigger artistic freedom with creating photographs. My passion became my profession and photography is my calling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am modern portrait photographer and I create wall art for my clients. I love to create images with my subject , concept, colors and light. Since I also love painting I connect these two art forms together in my work. In this creative process I use custom painted 9×10 feet large canvases as backdrops during photoshoots. Most of the photography sessions are done at my clients preferred venue, I have a mobile studio and bring all the backdrops, cameras, lights and reflectors. I bring the whole experience to them rather them going to the studio! Studio shoots are always great but sometimes are not time convenient as they are not always close to where you live.

Some people think that taking photograph it’s all about pressing shutter on the camera, but it’s actually much more than that. Reaching to my current creative space has been a long journey ! There are no shortcuts unfortunately!! A lot of hard work and knowledge is the key. I spend years trying to understand everything about camera, lighting, composition, poses, color theory, clothes and how to tell impactful story of that moment in time. It’s also very important to understanding what kind of image my client needs and to try to create an image closest to their imagination. I love when my photographs brings out happiness and confidence in my clients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Los Angeles, city with tons of great places to visit. Day time is great for hike in Rynon Canyon where you can see most of the LA from the top of the hill, or bike ride from Santa Monica to Venice beach. For food The Grove Farmers Market has big variety of foods including awesome oysters. In a mood for art, galleries such as Fahey/Klein where is always displayed work of some amazing photographer or my favorite The Broad Modern Art museum in DTLA.
At night for great entertainment Magic Castle a restaurant with many rooms where you can watch magic tricks preformed or No Vacancy club with Burlesque Dancers and Acrobats preforming while having drinks in garden. Hollywood Bowl also allows you to bring your own food and drinks inside so you can have picnic while listening to your favorite band.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel everyone from my family and friends have been there during my learning curve and success. Family is where it starts and I was lucky to have met some incredibly creative people that helped me develop a vision. I am very inspired by art and people who have given all they have in pursuit of art and happiness. I don’t think in can mention everyone but to name a few, I get inspiration from Sue Bryce, Lindsay Adler, Joel Grimes, Lola Melani and many others. In a competitive environment self development books are great to give me extra push and make one realize their strengths.
