Meet Isis Thomas, CCC-SLP | Speech Language Pathologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isis Thomas, CCC-SLP and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isis, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The social impact my business has is that we help people of all ages. I am a speech language pathologist. Most people think that my job is to just “teach people how to talk”. However, it goes beyond that. For pediatrics, therapy is provided for those who have trouble with their speech as well as those with language disorders and early intervention services. As for adults, I provide services for those who have had a stroke, traumatic brain injury, ALS, just to name a few. With the adult population, their treatment can consist of aphasia therapy (wording deficits), dysphagia therapy (difficulty swallowing), and dysarthria therapy (slurred speech). My social impact has helped a variety of families and for their loved ones to be able to improve their communication needs.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The name of my business is Crimson Therapy Services. My business provides speech therapy to children and adults with speech, language, and swallowing disorders in Newnan, GA and surrounding areas. I’ve owned my business for over a year now. Owning a business was not a part of my plan in 2021, but God gave me the vision to do so. I can say the least, in graduate school, they did not groom us to become business owners but simply speech therapists. I’ve been in the field for 7 years now. I’ve worked in numerous settings. The school system, skilled nursing facility, acute care hospital, private practice, inpatient rehab and long term acute care hospitals. I can say, I’ve been around the world and back. What pushed me to own my own business was the need in the community that I live in. My doctor told me, “I don’t know a speech therapist in this area.” After his statement, I had to Google the area and research it for myself. And shockingly, it was one only major practice in the area with a huge waiting list and only one speech therapist servicing adults only virtually. With that being said, I knew I had some work to do. Setting up a business was my biggest challenge. From getting credentialed with insurance companies, finding a brick and mortar building, buying testing assessments, marketing and you can imagine the list goes on. These challenges have humbled me and I appreciate how far I’ve come. The one thing I want people to know about me and my brand is that this is not just a business but a calling! You have to be compassionate to be a speech therapist and remember that this is a service delivery job and you have to treat it as such. If people have a need, then you should supply quality services. Speech therapy was my calling which I never imagined that I would be doing. With God at the center of my heart, this business has been thriving !
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The most exciting places to check out in Newnan, GA are Meat n Greet, The Mad Mexican, and Karvela’s. These are some of my favorite hangouts in Newnan. Yes, you can say I’m a regular but my practice is in the downtown district so I feel the need to explore these restaurants and support their businesses. They have very good food and great people all in a nice area. During the summer months, we also have Jazz in the Park which is a great way to end your week once a month. My favorite restaurant is in the next city over in Senoia, GA where they film the famous show “The Walking Dead”. The restaurant is called Nic and Normans. Everything on the menu is delicious but my two favs are the lamb burger and the fried chicken pot pie. Aside from food, The Battery and Ponce City Market in Atlanta are great places to travel to on the weekend. The Ponce City market has a roof top and a million shops and restaurants as well as at the Battery, you can catch a Braves game and much more.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank my supportive family, friends, and my speech therapist colleagues who helped push me to venture out and start my own private practice.
