Meet Isaiah Zay” Little | Creative Services Provider + International DJ”

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah “Zay” Little and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaiah “Zay”, what do you attribute your success to?
Integrity and authenticity. Sticking to my moral principles and values along with being true to who I am and come from has proved to be the most valuable attribute which has contributed to the growth of my brand. Building on ideas and concepts that are true to me has allowed my work to resonate with a bigger audience developing a community with common pasions and concerns.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others,
GalleryRetail produces the only monthly arts and cultural festival in the Greater Newark Area. What excites me most is the appreciation of the attendees and the artists/creatives that we are able to hire and/or collaborate with. With their respective support, we are quickly approaching our goal of 100 subscribers to our Patreon by the end of the year.
Getting to where you are today business-wise was not easy however it came naturally for me. Since preschool, I have been empowered to express my creativity and I recall my first invention in the first grade took me to the state competition. While there have been countless obstacles and trials my support system has enabled me to continue my entrepreneurial pursuit(s) or give me the confidence to commence a new one. If I ever had to overcome a challenge, I regularly return to my foundation physically or mentally to restore my energy: phoning a friend or family member, trips to familiar places, or hiatuses to new places.
Two of the greatest lessons I’ve learned are to never stop learning and surround yourself with people that are smarter than you.
I want the world to know I am more than what you see or presume about my story; my businesses and community work are reflections of that. It takes time to build great things and GalleryRetail/Newark First Fridays seeks to grow and become institutions that serve communities: both impactful economically while developing and addressing systemic issues.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Where would you take them?
Newark has nearly 2,000 eateries; it may be the largest type of business in the city. So you must eat and drink throughout the city, and globally, so pace yourself. It is the Northeast so you have to have a slice of pizza, head to Frank’s Pizzeria on Bloomfield Ave, or if you are downtown Queen II. Newark’s staple sandwich stacks up to [if not exceeds those of our neighbors to the East and South] so you must try an Italian Hotdog and/or Italian Cheeseburger, checkout Dickie Dee’s or Nico’s Pizzeria. I am all about no-frills so if you are too you’ll love Soul Food Chess, The Weekend Spot (only open Fri-Sun), and El Merengue. If you looking for something a bit more swanky or date worthy go check new Burke’s Tavern or Swahili Village.
Depending on the season you have to check out all the festivals, the city is most lively during the festival season. Although they are great Newark First Fridays is recurring so more opportunities to catch the fun. Balanced fun for all ages? Source of Knowledge and American Dream (in nearby Rutherford) — there’s also a great wine bar here.
Artists and creatives keep the city moving and lively. Find them and you’ll find a good time.
