We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabelle Trachtenbroit and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My main goal when starting my business, The Vanity House, was to connect with others who could appreciate and resonate with my style. Whether it be through my hair and makeup, wardrobe styling or interior design services, I’ve always had a desire to elevate everyday life with a unique touch. It’s been the biggest blessing to connect with others and turn a creative passion into a career.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to beauty, wardrobe or interior, I draw inspiration from a very specific aesthetic that is otherwise hard to describe. But, I believe that’s the beauty in it; I communicate this aesthetic through imagery and the feeling that it creates in the viewer. I would describe my hair and makeup style as modern, sophisticated, and above all, never cookie- cutter. When gathering inventory for wardrobe and interiors, you can always find me sourcing vintage from antique stores or estate sales. Unique pieces are my signature- I never walk in to a store with a game plan. When I see the right piece, I know.
I believe that I’ve gotten to where I am today by only walking to the beat of my own drum. It can be hard to tune out everything that’s going on around you, but it’s important to remember that what you offer is unique to you. Your art will always reach the right people. If I could offer advice to anyone reading this, if you’ve found something that you love to do, hang on to it. Even if you don’t always have a clear game plan, having something in your life that lights that creative spark is priceless.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visit the area, I’d have to take them through downtown Alpharetta to IndieHouse Fragrance Bar + Fuel Coffee. For lunch, Citizen Soul in Alpharetta is one of my go-to’s!
For art, the High Museum is a must. For exploring/hiking I’d go to Amicalola Falls, Roswell Mill or Helen.
Other favorites are the antique stores in Dahlonega + thrift shops in the metro area!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest support system in starting this career has been my family. They’ve always supported my creative pursuits and accepted me for all that I am.
I’d also like to thank my partner, Adrian, for being the best listener and giving me the advice I’ve needed to make big decisions and grow.
