We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac “SRE” Asare and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaac “SRE”, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I feel like it all comes down to your “why”- Why are you doing what you do? How strong is your “why” to make you get up and continue to do what you do? Personally, I thought about giving up a lot. When situations got hard and I had to really contemplate if what I was doing was going to pull through. I’ve spent more than I earned, sacrificed sleep when I should have slept- you know, the come-up story. But when you’re so invested in something you love, and I mean something that you REALLY love, you become it to a point it doesn’t feel like a drag or a bother. You sleep, dream, walk and breathe your passion. I chose and continue to choose to keep going because my faith is stronger than what I see now. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to give up UNLESS you complain more than you pray and believe. The power we hold is on the tip of our tongue and I believe we can not waste our strength on something we know we can change for the better.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel what separates me from the others is that I hear music differently. Having dance as a background, I’m able to create and hit certain notes that only a few would probably notice.

To get to where I am today took a lot of sacrifices. I never knew what that meant until I was DEEP in it just to see the surface. Being a serious artist for 2 years now, October 31st, 2019 was the day I decided to do music. 2020 was the year I locked myself in my room and went to Youtube University to teach myself everything: producing, mixing, mastering, elevating your craft, tips to do to become a better artist, etc. I stayed inside all summer pushing to become a better me because I know the competition is everywhere and to stand out is to be prepared for anything. It was definitely not easy, but I learned to consistency and perseverance are everything. This goes back to your “why”. I also feel like challenges are just Gods’ way of asking you “how badly do you want it?” Life has many challenges but when you pick that one thing that your heart is into, challenges will come, but the greats aren’t great because everything was easy for them.

Lessons I learned along the way is that not everyone is going to help you until you help yourself. But even when you help yourself, doors will still close in your face. You just have to learn how to persevere through everything. What I want the world to know about me is that even when it got challenging, God helped me push. Again, many times I thought to myself if this is really what I want to do, I would feel my strength rejuvenate and my why focus sharpens. I know that could only be God because when you isolate yourself so much in your room, no one else is talking to you or lifting you up the way He is. Just know that everything you see happening around me is because of God.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a week long trip, it would probably go like this:

Monday: Go to Skyzone to jump on some trampolines

Tuesday: Catch a movie at Scarborough Town Centre and get wings because everything is cheaper on Tuesdays

Wednesday: Glow n the dark bowling

Thursday: Eat at a spot called “Magic Noodle” – a Chinese hand pulled noodle soup spot in Scarborough, Ontario. And if you’re into bubble tea, I would take you to either Real Fruit, Coco’s or Chatime. They used to have a post called “GoForTea” but they closed down. Then cruise through the city, mostly at night and just give like a tour of what downtown Toronto looks like. I don’t know why but everything feels more magical at night.

Friday: Take a dance class to learn choreography from some of Toronto’s finest.

Saturday: Explore Niagara Fall’s and the interactions that they provide

Sunday: Go to Ripley’s Aquarium to explore marine animals

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to God, without Him, I wouldn’t be here nor doing what I do. Along with my beautiful grandmother & mother and my siblings, Mary-Anna & Jacob. My team Dani, Ellejae, Ferdi, Freddy & Marvin. My best friend and right-hand Queen, Sheena. My mentors Onika, Akua, Jason, Tona, Shiwan, EverythingOShauN, & 5PiECE. My friends, family and fans who continue to believe in me and remain loyal throughout my process. Y’all are everything to me and I thank God for putting you all in my life.
