We had the good fortune of connecting with Irene Diaz-Bazán and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Irene, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe that being a permanent student of life has taught me how to find the key to open many doors. Sometimes I didn’t like what I discovered there, but I enjoyed the adaptation process nonetheless. But beyond my own experiences through my 30 years working as a multimedia journalist, I discovered a lot of scenarios that have led me to appreciate the better things in life.
But the most important factor behind the success was discipline, consistency, and of course, to build the best version of me as both a journalist and a human being who supports our vulnerable community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

The most challenging chapter of my life began with leaving my native country, Peru — bidding farewell to what might have been the most beautiful phase of my life. It was an abrupt shift, adapting to a country with a culture diametrically opposite to mine.

I emigrated to the United States in pursuit of a dream of love that ultimately remained unfulfilled. However, amidst that process, I discovered an unexpected affection for this captivating land of laws and opportunities. “I would like to be remembered as a human being who, as a reporter, always tried to amplify the voices of the less fortunate. May my children receive the legacy of a mother who instilled the best values that represent being a good human being.

What sets me apart from others is that I pour my soul, life, and heart into my work, as a mother, and in some way as a community leader. I’ve never expected recognition or reward, yet the trust of my community is the greatest gift… it’s incomparable, it’s just priceless.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, probabbly I will take her to The Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world, then we can visith the fantastic High Museum, a quick viist to Coca-Cola enthusiast’s paradise, I think ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDEN is a good option and definitely The Martin Luther King National SIte.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think my sister Olimpia deserves a credit and recognition in my story. She was a big support to me and an incredible rol model in life.
