We had the good fortune of connecting with International Susan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi International, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Hi, I am Susan. Well, honestly, it’s Cynthia Susan but since I was born and raised in Germany and Germans found it hard to pronounce Cynthia, my Mom started calling me by my middle name, Susan. I was born in Stuttgart, raised in Heidelberg, and went to a Christian Canadian boarding school near Switzerland, so I’m a german chic in an African body with an American passport. “Third Culture Kids” is what they call us. Multi-lingual, multicultural, and complex.
The impact this has had on me is; that I am a shifter. At a young age, I learned to adjust to the “culture” of the room, and this is a skill that has sharpened with age through living in various countries, traveling, or working for international corporations. I love the diversity of people. It helps me feel less complex and more unique.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have two active LLCs. “I am Serendipity” LLC is a lifestyle brand created for the whole lifestyle of a person beginning a path of Spirituality. My expertise is creating herbal remedies for everyday use and Tarot guidance sessions. I have published my first self-help eCourse, “7 Steps to a Life of Serendipity,” on my website. I am Serendipity LLC is a fun mix of a holistic lifestyle and the human pursuit of happiness and success. My seekers find a haven to ask basic questions and find answers and guidance. My website speaks about energy influences, vibrations, universal signs & signals, legends, fairy tales, astrology, the Tarot, horoscope influences, Moon phases, sun influences, zodiac signs, ancient medicine, rituals, and ceremonies, and other esoteric topics. And Dilworth Public Relations LLC offers a multi-faceted array of services such as Marketing, Business Development, Artist Management, Public Relations, and Event Production. Our unique and innovative methodologies raise our clients’ images to new heights in the eyes of their target audiences. And lastly, I am a Financial Literacy Advocate. So I partner with a company that allows me to help my community with financial education services. I provide a unique and personalized experience for my clients to eliminate the burden of economic uncertainty. Our company has created a “Roadmap” to bring our customers’ financial future peace of mind. It’s only accessible because all of my business and everything I do is 100% ME. I can work from anywhere as long as there is wifi or on my phone. It took several years and many challenges to get to where I am today, but they were all worth it. The biggest challenge I had to overcome was my mindset, and I learned to be flexible and coachable, humble and servant, and understand that money flows through those actions. Find the pain points offer the solution and then help the customer take action. That is how I build success and a peaceful work/life balance. I see myself as a legacy builder, a professional friend maker, and a data collector.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, Wow, TULUM Mexico for me. I am presently here as I write you and funny enough a close friend is arriving on Thursday for a long weekend with me. She booked the hotel, I rented the car, and I have a few fun things planned for us.
After the airport pick-up, We will settle in our hotel and then dress for dinner. Wander up and down the little Mexican street, and I’ll show her the typical street vendors and tourist shops. The following day we will rise early because I have a few business calls to make, but then we will head out to the Mayan ruins and a few museums, and once the midday sun cools down, we’ll head to the beach for a hookah lounge and check out the scene. The next day is a full day of site seeing and shopping. I will take her to a Cenote, a deep sinkhole in limestone with a pool at the bottom found primarily in the Yucatán Peninsula. There are so many eateries and great drink spots that I am sure I don’t need to make many plans for the day. But at night, we will visit a different dinner hookah lounge in the hotel zone, which is more of the club zone vs. the street vendors from the night before. Well, I am sure you get the picture. It will be fun, fun, fun because I have been working here in Tulum for two months, and I am ready to let me hear down, shut off my phone and close my laptop.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would first shout out my parent, who made a wise and courageous choice to raise their children in Germany in the 70s. My Dad is from Southside Chicago, and my Mom is from Augusta, GA. There wasn’t much travel outside of America back then for African-Americans except through the military, so my parent didn’t return to the US when the opportunity appeared to stay abroad. We were army brats by day and hippies kids by night. My dad’s wanderlust was insatiable, so I saw and learned so much that I became fearless and even borderless, making me the successful woman I am today.
Next, I would like to recognize my Mentor Dr. Nadine Pulling and my business partner Jackie Garcia. I can rely on and grow with both women—my lifelong friends Ildiko Basa and Ivy Owusu-Dartey, and, last but not least, my fiance Carlos Woods.
