Hi Infiniti, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I’m sure we have all heard this before , “make sure you have a plan before you start a business”. In my eyes this is the worst advice you can give to a potential business owner. If you wait for every single detail and aspect of your business to be perfect before you start , 9/10 you’ll never start.

When I started my business in July 2020 I had NO IDEA what I was doing . I only knew that God had given me a passion and a vision. I had no idea on how to find vendors ,or test them. I wasn’t sure on how to market. I just knew that I loved hair and I always had ! I had a calling that I finally decided to answer.

I started from the bottom. Of course I made mistakes. No I didn’t have all the things needed such as an LLC or branded packaging.. However I learned and grew every step of the way .

Every business is different! The route I took may not work for you or the next person . That’s why it’s so important to just follow your heart and keep God first.

Perfecting your craft and business comes with time and most importantly funding. In the beginning your focus should be building your target audience, enhancing your skills and gaining knowledge.. Also before you jump into investing into legal documents etc you want to make sure that this is something you really want to do .

I wasted so much money , rushing , thinking that I had to have this and that immediately. When in reality I didn’t need any of that . All I needed was Gods favor and my faith..

The bottom line is , start that business NOW! Worry about making it perfect later .

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Styles by Finn provides custom fitted and designed wigs . All units are hand crafted by the owner . Meaning each creation is 100% unique! We take pride in always providing top notch customer service. Of course there will be times where any business is unable to please everyone . However , we ALWAYS go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction!

We get the question of “how did you do it” quite often . To be transparent it’s hard to explain . I would say consistency has been a major key . No matter how discouraged I became I never stopped . Day in and day out I worked to master my craft. Running a business is NOT EASY. There will be days where you make thousands and days where you make nothing . It’s all apart of the process.

Some of my closest “friends” and family members doubted me , told me I should quit , never supported me or encouraged me . I didn’t let that stop me though . I knew that God had a plan for my life and vision !

I’ve learned that taking your time and being patient with yourself is important as well . Nothing good comes fast . I also learned to never compare your chapter 1 to someone’s chapter 10. Everyone has their own lane . Focus on being you and the rest will follow..

I would like the world to know that it’s possible . That success that you dream of can be achieved as long as you remain faithful. I went broke plenty of times investing into my business. I made sacrifices that many would not . I remember doing door dash or bite squad for HOURS while working my 9-5 . I remember being so tired some days but that only made me stronger . The struggle is what makes you .

There is no elevator to success , one must simply take the stairs

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a few people that I owe my success to . However I would first like to give the credit to God . In 2017 I lost everything, I thought God had given up on me but in reality it was a new beginning.

I want to thank God for his unconditional love . For the grace and mercy he has placed upon my life . I am so thankful that he loved me when I didn’t have the strength to love myself . God is the ONLY one who stood beside me , the only one who carried me no matter how many mistakes I’ve made. For that I will forever bless his name !

I would also like to give credit to my late grandfather, McArthur McDowell. I lost my grandfather in the physical world in 2010 to cancer . However he has never left my side. I want to thank him for always loving me . For always being so patient and kind to me . The love and encouragement he gave can never be replaced . I hope that he’s looking down smiling on me . I pray that I’ve made him proud !
