We had the good fortune of connecting with Imani Starling-brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Imani, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always thrived at the intersection of business and creativity. I love being analytical, researching, and constantly learning new information to apply to my work and life. To balance my natural curiosity and drive to challenge the status quo, I also embrace thinking outside the box and solving problems. That’s why I pursued a career in marketing and branding. Each new project or client brief is an opportunity to ask insightful questions, uncover what fuels their business, understand their goals, and connect with the deeper meaning behind their mission. With that knowledge, I craft creative solutions that meet their needs, whether designing dynamic websites, developing comprehensive brand strategies, or executing compelling marketing campaigns. I am truly privileged to have a career that channels my creativity and helps brands grow and thrive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Throughout my career, my driving force has been creating meaningful impact, both in my work and my community. What sets me apart is my ability to merge creativity with strategic thinking, producing solutions that not only look great but also deliver measurable results. I take pride in how Good Company supports Black-owned and small businesses. It is not just about building our clients’ brands; we are reinvesting in our community and helping these businesses thrive in a competitive marketplace.

Before starting Good Company, I spent years in the corporate world, where I often felt like I was either too much or not enough. I could not maximize my potential or make the impact I knew I was capable of. The constantly shifting goalposts of what was considered “good enough” made true success feel out of reach. That experience sparked my desire to create Good Company, where I could redefine success and impact on my terms. Our tagline, Creating our version of good, perfectly captures this vision because, in the end, that is what truly matters.

What excites me most is seeing the real-life impact our work has on people and businesses. Whether we are helping a startup scale or empowering a small business to reach a broader audience, every project is an opportunity to make a lasting difference. The growth and empowerment of these businesses drive my passion and highlight the importance of economic empowerment in our communities.

At Good Company, we are more than just a creative agency. We are a team of dynamic professionals committed to making a difference through impactful design, strategic marketing, and innovative technology. Our mission extends beyond branding and marketing; we empower businesses to thrive, foster community growth, and ensure our clients’ stories resonate in meaningful and powerful ways.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends visit me in LA, I always kick things off with a reservation at Elephante, my absolute favorite spot. For daytime activities, I like to plan a hike based on their interests. We could go the classic route and hike up to the Hollywood sign for iconic views, or if they’re up for something a bit more challenging and scenic, we might tackle Runyon Canyon. After dinner, I suggest catching a show at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, especially on Sundays when we can enjoy Chocolate Sundays. We’ll enjoy the perfect mix of great food, beautiful views, and fun entertainment.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my amazing team at Good Company. Our team of three is small but dynamic. Our CTO, Hakeem, is a Black tech genius who enhances our efficiency, develops innovative solutions to streamline operations, and ensures we do good business in the digital age. Our Creative Director, Carrie, is a Black creative visionary who seamlessly blends aesthetics with usability, delivering good designs that truly make an impact. Together, they push me to believe in myself, instilling confidence in my leadership and driving my pursuit of full-time entrepreneurship. I’m grateful to work alongside such inspiring talents.
