We had the good fortune of connecting with I’keysis Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi I’keysis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The friends I made in college truly inspired me to start my own entrepreneurial journey. Both of them were hairdressers and were making a living in college. While observing their business acumen and success, I couldn’t help but think to myself, “I don’t have any side hustles; I would love to start my own business.”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting my nail business wasn’t difficult for me at all. I purchased all the necessary supplies and spent every evening after work practicing my nail skills. I took a nail class with Kiashja, who taught me more about nail application, sanitation, and design. After each practice session, I noticed my skills improving rapidly. Before I knew it, I was able to take my first client. I believe that taking clients also made me a better nail artist because everyone has different preferences, whether it’s a simple design or a more intricate one with blinged-out charms and rhinestones. If I hadn’t done a particular design before, I would practice it to ensure that I could do it successfully before my client arrived. I was also quite honest with them. If I couldn’t do something, I would tell them. However, it was rare for me not to be able to fulfill their wishes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Milledgeville, my favorite place to visit would probably be downtown. It’s a popular spot for college students, but that’s what makes it so great. There are bakeries, wing spots, and a few clothing stores for shopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Courtney& Timia for being such an inspiration to me! I would also like to shout out to all my friends who were willing to let me practice on them when I first started doing nails. Also, I can’t forget my clients for putting their trust in me and allowing me to do their nails.
