We had the good fortune of connecting with Ife Adebowale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ife, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting Cherishing Life Beginnings Birth Services was deeply rooted in my commitment to revolutionize the birthing experience. I recognized a significant gap in the available options for childbirth, especially in terms of diversity, representation, and the overall satisfaction of birthing experiences.
As I delved into the world of alternative birth options, it became evident that there was a need for more inclusive and culturally sensitive approaches. Cherishing Life Beginnings Birth Services emerged from the belief that every individual should have access to birthing choices that resonate with their values, backgrounds, and preferences.
Addressing the disparities in birth outcomes and satisfaction, particularly within BIPOC communities, became a central goal. By creating a space that celebrates diversity and offers personalized, culturally sensitive care, I aimed to change the narrative and outcomes associated with childbirth.
My thought process also included a desire to challenge traditional norms and contribute to a more positive and empowering birth experience. This initiative is not just a business; it’s a mission to reshape the conversation around childbirth, advocate for BIPOC representation in the homebirth setting, and ultimately enhance the overall well-being of individuals and families during this transformative life stage.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cherishing Life Beginnings Birth Services was born out of a necessity for alternative birth options, increased BIPOC representation in the homebirth setting, and a passion for changing the outcomes of birth satisfaction and statistics. Since its inception in 2015, our organization has set itself apart by embracing a holistic and traditional approach to childbirth, recognizing and incorporating the often overlooked spiritual essence of this transformative experience.
What makes us unique is our commitment to providing comprehensive and culturally sensitive care, tailoring our practices to meet the diverse needs and backgrounds of the individuals we serve. We believe that childbirth is a sacred journey, and our approach reflects this belief, setting us apart from conventional models of care.
Business-wise, our journey has been a work in progress. We began as a sole proprietorship and evolved into an LLC and INC., with our current goal set on becoming an agency and corporation. This transition has not been without its challenges, particularly in creating a market for doulas in Columbus, GA, especially within the black community.
The difficulties we’ve faced include the need to educate and unlearn preconceived notions about childbirth, as well as the challenge of re-educating individuals about their birth rights. Additionally, the issue of public health insurance, covering basic services but often leaving a gap for more extensive support, has posed a unique challenge.
Overcoming these obstacles required persistence, community engagement, and a dedication to advocacy. Educating the community about the importance of comprehensive birth support has been an ongoing process. We’ve learned that breaking down misconceptions and conveying the value of our services is essential to building trust and fostering understanding.
Our proudest achievements lie in the impact we’ve made on birthing experiences, challenging norms, and advocating for a more holistic approach to childbirth. We are excited about the potential to further expand our influence as we work towards becoming an agency and corporation.
In essence, we want the world to know that Cherishing Life Beginnings Birth Services is more than a business; it’s a movement dedicated to empowering individuals, reshaping perceptions, and fostering a deeper understanding of the sacred journey that is childbirth. We invite everyone to join us in this transformative experience, recognizing the importance of comprehensive and culturally sensitive care for all
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Throughout the week, I’d make sure to incorporate local gems, hidden treasures, and popular spots that capture the essence of the area. The goal is to create a mix of relaxation, adventure, cultural exploration, and culinary delights for an unforgettable experience.
I am a very spiritual being so the very 1st location we would visit is The Riverwalk of Columbus, rent some bikes, and explore Columbus, GA along the Dragonfly Trail. I am a black activist so I would definitely take her to Ma Raina House, Liberty Theater, and other Black Heritage locations.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I would like to give thanks, gratitude, and credit to Most High Creator, Universe, Spirit Guides, and my Ancestors. Nothing happens without their blessings first.
To my Grandmother Bernice Cofield and Grandfather Tom Cofield for always instilling the proper principles and morals within me. They both demonstrated what it was to be an example of hard-work and how to harvest the fruits of your labor. No matter how wild my dreams got, they ALWAYS supported them even when they had no idea or clue of what I was doing or attempting to create.
Parris, London, Milan, and Brooklyn Ortiz, my beautiful Goddesses and to my young God, Ade Alkebulan. I push myself daily to keep these Starseeds shining.
My partner in life, Ryza Alkebulan. He always pushes me to be the very best version of myself mentally, spiritually, physically, and mentally. He is my backbone when it comes to decision-making for my business because I can get indecisive when it comes to how I want to move.
My mentor, instructor, and guardian of my birth professional studies, Mawusi Ashashakir. Mawusi pours into myself and my family with love, support, guidance, & counseling. She keeps my glass filled by constantly pouring into it with her unconditional love and presence. She keeps me motivated and my voice of reason that keeps me within the birth industry.
Last, I want to give a little credit and recognition to myself. I have beaten and defied the odds. Based on the dynamics of my life, I shouldn’t be here to share this information with you BUT the Most High Creator, Universe, Spirit Guides, and my Ancestors NEVER allowed the world to count me out, give-up, or give-in. Thank you to me for believing in me, pushing myself, and never giving up on my dream.
