We had the good fortune of connecting with Ieisha Ashwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ieisha, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Do you want to be Great or do you want to be average?” That’s the question I ask myself daily, as well as my clients and just the people around me. That simple question really sets the tone for how I decide to attack my days, as well as motivating myself for the goals I’ve set out for myself in the long run. Anything that I do I want it to be the best of the best. I always want to put my best foot forward and apply pressure like I know I’m capable of. I’m always going to choose to be great, because if I don’t, it’s like why am I even wasting my time or energy putting it into something I don’t want to see the best outcome from. I always want to give my greatest effort and provide my best when doing anything.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a performance coach/ trainer is a very exciting career to me. Everyday I’m a student to my profession, aside from the fact that I’m still currently in school finishing up a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and getting ready to go to grad school for athletic training. My professional background, as well as schooling are some of the things that set me apart from others in the same field as me. I got to where I am today by constantly pushing myself to be better, not being afraid to take opportunities head on and asking a lot of questions. It’s not easy being a female in a male dominated space, but I never shy away from the challenge of showing up and showing out. Always making it very clear that I’m more than qualified and capable of coaching and training with the best of the best. There’s always lessons to be learned, one of the major lessons that I’m actively learning is that you’re only as good as the effort you put in to reach your success. Opportunity doesn’t just come knocking at your door, you have to make yourself visible and heard. And even when you think people aren’t seeing what you’re doing, there’s always somebody watching and taking notes, sometimes just waiting on the right time to bless with that opportunity that could change your life completely.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve been in Atlanta going on 6 years now so the landscape, as well as the vibes of the city are ever changing. For food we definitely would have to go Roc South, Toast on Lenox, Copper Cove, Atlanta Breakfast Club, thumbs up and Eight sushi lounge. For hanging out Blue lounge, Escobar, Azule, Elleven45, Zari lounge, Sivas, Hide and red martini. We’d visit the High museum, Trap muzik museum, the aquarium, Botanical garden and maybe catch a basketball game. And of course we’d do a bootcamp or brick class at E.F.F.E.C.T. Fitness

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a lot of credit to E.F.F.E.C.T. Fitness, between the management team, my supporting staff and even the members. The entire gym is community like no other. The support, connections and everything in between found in that place is unmatched. Me taking the real steps to take my business and brand to new levels have definitely been in part to the community I have behind me there.
