We had the good fortune of connecting with campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi campbell, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
You know, this is a huge problem I see developing in America. People are so caught up with making the absolute most money they can, that sometimes they forget to balance out their time. There’s a trade off. If you overwork yourself it will consume your entire social life. The most important thing you have is time with friends and family, and sacrificing those things for a few materialistic “wants” is unreasonable.
For myself, It has fluctuated in the past year. Sometimes I stay in more than I should, sometimes I’m lazy and struggle to work on my music. I do find that I feel more connected with myself when i’m creating though. It’s an easy task for me to begin a new song from scratch, but finishing it seems to take a little bit more effort and thought. So if I have too many songs that are in the works/unfinished, it makes me reluctant to work on them. I guess that is just the overwhelming factor of working in the studio by yourself rather than with the help of an engineer.
From a bird’s eye view, if you are working in a field you are passionate about then your work life balance will be great. The key is doing what you love.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an artist I think it’s hard to type what makes my art what it is. I always want my work to be interpreted by the reader rather than telling them my intended morals of each piece.
What I have realized is that the secret ingredient is truth. If you are honest with who you are and put that into your work, it will be appreciated. It’s not always about being the best, but it is always important to be yourself.
Back towards the beginning of this year, I had a moment in the studio that I had never experienced before. For the first time in my life, I had recorded a song that sparked an idea for an entire project/Album. After hearing what I recorded I could just see the overall theme I wanted to represent. I’m very excited about this and will stop now before I spoil too much. I would expect this project early 2023.
When talking about my brand and what I stand for, I want people to see me as an inspiration to do what they want. I did everything I was told growing up and never batted an eye. I went from getting a Biology Degree from UGA to redirecting my life towards what I cared about. It’s a bold thing to go against the norms of society, but a life driven by your own interests will lead you to a happy one.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we are talking Atlanta, there’s never a shortage of places to see. Of course I would recommend going to Truist Park, Mercedes Benz, and Statefarm Arena for all the Atlanta sporting events.
Another one of my favorite spots to grab a beer is Contrast Artisan Ales over in Chamblee. They have the best beer i’ve ever tasted as well as a relaxing outdoor area with live music and food trucks on weekends. Super chill place.
If you like putt putt I would hit PuttShack and grab some nearby food afterwards. O-Ku has some delicious sushi and cocktails to die for and it’s walking distance away.
If you’re new to Atlanta you have to grab some food from the Varsity downtown, and you for sure have to take a stroll through Piedmont Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many different people that have influenced me to take initiative on my music. Of course my favorite artists inspired me, but the people around me deserve some real credibility as well. Right out of High School during early college days my homie Noah Scharf brought me on to the music scene. He was already an established artist making a buzz and gaining connections in the business. He would bring me to the studio in Atlanta where we would record and work with various people. At that time, the only songs I ever recorded were with Noah. I have always had a very passionate outlook on music throughout my life, but never was it directed towards making my own. Noah was the gateway for me. He really showed that he believed in my ability. This was the moment I shifted from a fan to a creator.
As my years of college flew by in Athens, I was writing and freestyling practically daily. An itch that couldn’t be scratched was now embedded in me for life. I wanted to create music that influenced someone else positively like my favorite songs did for me.
After graduating from UGA I came to the realization that life is what you make it. I made the decision to buy equipment and start making my own music. Once I started recording I couldn’t stop. After a few months went by I hadn’t really done anything except for record and work on my writing. I finally put out a couple songs, but then was robbed of my laptop, which made it feel like I was in the same spot I started in.
At this point in time, my number one fan was my girlfriend Abigail. She believed in me so much that we had an intervention about how I need to take music more seriously. It was an awakening seeing tears run down her face. It made me realize how much she wanted this for me. She has always been the sole support behind me from day one. I can’t thank her enough for believing in me and helping me keep my next foot forward.
My story never would have began without these people. I am grateful for all of my friends and family members that have supported me through each step.
