We had the good fortune of connecting with Hudson Hower and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hudson, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Comically enough, I wanted to start Unify because I never wanted a job with a strict dress code. Following that, it all came down to working with cool people. Building relationships while playing with cameras and lights is lucky career to be in no matter how you cut it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Unify Visual is part of a larger Unify umbrella that is also a recording studio in Fort Mill, SC (engineering/mixing for DaBaby, Stunna 4 Vegas, some other huge names I’m still tripping about.) I’m proud of our teams heart for educating. Myself, Jono, and Landis all believe that when the water is high, everyone is doing well. We want to help teach, give opportunity, and equip people to make the coolest stuff the world hasn’t seen/heard yet. We are building a studio headquarters in Charlotte currently, and it will serve as a place for working, educating and growing. Recording studio, live room, sound stage, editing bay, and a hell of a coffee set-up. Biggest challenges so far have been dealing with the down time. My fix for that is keeping good people around you, who care about you more than the business. Put your people first, make great work, and have some chill.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hex Coffee is the first stop – if you’re the person that worries about light roast, single origin, washed process coffee, this is the spot for you. StableHand cafe second – biscuits take you to God’s house. Bardo for dinner if you want some complex, mind blowing flavors. Hello Sailor is another option for breaky, lunch or dinner (if drinking, as for the Daughter Judy. it’s off menu. thank me later.) Charlotte is a walkable city once you’re in the outskirts. It’s worth grabbing a bike or a board and rolling around to the various spots to enjoy a drink or the movements of the city with a friend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first teachers, the guys at IMIGpro. They brought me in, trusted me, taught me, and tolerated me far longer than they should have. Russell DeShields treated me with a type of trust and respect that people only write about. David Tolentino taught me how to think, and care more. Also, I owe pretty much any part of my life to skateboarding. Without that culture, I wouldn’t be in this industry, I wouldn’t have learned the respect for the world I feel, and I would not have met my fiance. Beautiful question.
