We had the good fortune of connecting with HsiMing (Peter) Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi HsiMing (Peter), what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was little, I’ve always felt a strong desire to create. The ability to draw or design things that come from my imagination has consistently brought me joy and a sense of empowerment.
Over the past few years, I have also found that it’s not just about making my own life more joyful; I’ve found that my creations can bring happiness to others as well.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a motion designer focused on branding, brand packaging, and brand design, I am excited about creating compelling visual identities for brands and using my knowledge and skills to meet people’s needs.
I have received a great deal of help from friends, and now I am proud to say that I am a motion designer with interesting ideas to offer. No matter which field you are in, the process has never been easy. Striving for perfection is always challenging. Overcoming these challenges has been a significant part of my creative journey.
I have learned so much from my peers and professionals along the way. What I learn the most is that often time it isn’t just your skills that propel you forward, but how you collaborate as a team and become the person the team needs. While skills are undoubtedly important, I believe that the ability to work closely within a team or even lead it is crucial.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend were visiting the Savannah, GA area, I would take them to some of my favorite local coffee shops, like Foxy Loxy, Perc, or Savannah Coffee Roasters. I love the coffee shops around the city, especially during the morning hours when it’s quiet enough to enjoy the sunlight and savor a coffee while working on my computer. I would also take them to the downtown area, which is walkable and filled with historic buildings.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I would like to shout out to, but without a doubt, MOMElove, the Motoin Media student club at the Savannah College of Art and Design, has helped me the most. This club features industry-related events and workshops, providing students a platform to connect with each other and professionals in the field. I was honored to serve as one of the co-presidents for the 2023-2024 academic year, and I have to say I learned so much from being both a leader and a participant.
