We had the good fortune of connecting with Horace Shivers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Horace, why did you pursue a creative career?
The most important factor behind being a professional sports photojournalist is the ability to capture the decisive moment. This involves not only technical skills such as mastering the camera settings and understanding lighting but also having a deep knowledge of the sport being covered. Knowing the game allows a photojournalist to anticipate key moments and position themselves to capture the action, emotion, and context that tell a compelling story. Additionally, adaptability, quick decision-making, and the ability to work under pressure are crucial in the fast-paced environment of sports photography.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love creating visual content for sports readers across the world. I currently write sports articles as well as photography for the Griffin Daily News and Peachtree Hoops with a focus on local sports in Georgia and professional coverage of the Atlanta Dream and Hawks. . I have articles that have appeared in various publications such as The Daily Tribune News, Georgian Times, Henry Herald and Upson Beacon, I have been a freelance sports photojournalist for two years now. Writing is easy for me because I have a passion for sports and it’s something that I have always wanted to do. I owe my success to my family for always being encouraging and pushing me to be the best I can be. I have learned many lessons along the way as many have been on the job as I continue to move through the ranks in the industry. I want the word to know that my stories and photos are unique and they allow you to follow the games even if you weren’t present. I have been able to meet many people and grow relationships in business by being honest and doing a great job for whatever company that hires me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take anybody that’s visiting Atlanta to the Battery. The Battery is were you can watch the Braves game, shop and enjoy the nice restaurants inside the Battery. It’s also provide nice hotels to stay in during your visit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I like to thank everyone that has played a part in my success. . My mother Annie and father Horace have been real encouraging. My wife Patrice has been very instrumental as well. I would like to thank my kids Eli and Journey as well..
