We had the good fortune of connecting with Honii Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Honii, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I appreciate the opportunity risk taking gives. You never know the end result until you actually do it! Taking risks started my career! I used to be a radiologist assistant and I had such a disrespectful experience with a manager I worked with that I said, “you don’t belong here” speaking to myself. Around that time I was doing hair for people I knew and I’ve always been a creative person so people always told me “you don’t need to be behind no desk at the hospital! You need to be in cosmetology school and do something with that gift!” So after me and my manager bumped heads I made the decision the sign up beauty school! I left my job, I asked a salon owner I’ve known for some time if I could work under her while I obtain my license and she agreed! That was a risk I was willing to take! If a risk is what you’re scared of, then a plan and some faith in yourself should be your best friends!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This will sound cliche but it’s true lol what sets me apart is, I’m me. My vision and perspective is different. I create with my heart and hands! I’m a very strong listener so take what you say into heavy consideration along with my education and produce quality work. Let the work talk for you! I’m most excited about my new lip gloss line coming out. I am patiently working on my dreams and can’t wait until the world is ordering Xoxo Honii lip glosses! I’m no where near where I see myself but it took so much self discipline and knowing that this is what I want! I love doing hair making people beautiful giving a person a new perspective on them self from a hairstyle is the end goal! It took a lot of support and understanding from my family! It took trust in my process and being able to build that trust with your clients being new in the game! Feeling like the slow weeks are the end but then getting booked and finishing a style, making a new happy consistent client, getting paid for what you did, its a confidence booster but you have to have that confidence on your good and bad days! My brand is one of inclusivity. I can do any hair type anyone can use my moisturizer and other products. I take care of your hair like it’s my own! If I wouldn’t use it I’m not using it on you! I give advice and hair tips whenever needed for home maintenance as well. I specialize in locs and braids but I can do any style. You sit in my chair get ready for some laughs and good convo and if you rather not speak then we got some good music to vibe to while I do your hair! Either way you’ll be smiling at the end!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dedication is to my 2 young men! They road it out with me and I love them! I would also loooove to shoutout Ashlee and Asonye Beauty Lounge in Stone Mountain! That’s a one stop shop! We have the best braiders, wig artist make up nail tech lash tech! You name it someone can do it!
