We had the good fortune of connecting with Honey Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Honey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is honestly the mentors I have worked with and continue to work with now. They’ve shown me how to be a businesswoman, generate income, storytelling within my art, and being a community member / leader.
With my mentors I learned to also get prepared for the day I become one as well. To start thinking about how I’m going to give back to the next generation of art

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got to this current point in my career by being self taught and figuring it out. Most of my showcasing has been through networking. An example would be my first ever solo / debut of my textile work at MOCA Cleveland in 2022. I got that solo by networking and being apart of the “ diversity “ incentive they had with a residency for Cleveland born artist. With that solo I was able to leverage that amazing opportunity to get 5 more exhibits in galleries as well as 2 residencies.
I also took a lot of time to study my craft. Since being self taught I have to work twice as hard. I say this because often self taught artists are overlooked due to not being apart of the academia world / instant acceptance because you’re not educated. So instead of complaining I studied everyday for 3 yrs. Learned how to punchneedle, how to blend my yarn, getting better concepts, and taking a risk.
The main lesson I’ve learned during my practice so far is to adapt. Things will always be changing no matter what.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever my friends come in town we do a few things like drinks/ lunch at Porsche experience. All time fav thing to do mainly cause of the track, seeing all the cars, the food is good, and it’s my one part of Atlanta I can relax at to visualize. For art I take them gallery hopping and possibly the high. For dancing and social tings we go to rock steady or if a certain party is happening go to that. Check out what pop ups are happening in the city

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with numerous organizations, nonprofits, and artist groups that have played a vital role in my growth. One of my most significant mentors has been Kevin Williams, an Atlanta-based artist with over 40 years of professional experience. His guidance has been invaluable in shaping my artistic journey.
Additionally, my experience with Tila Studios has been transformative. Their agency has provided me with incredible opportunities, resources, and support, helping me grow as an emerging artist.
Beyond these specific influences, my community has been instrumental in molding me into the artist I am today. The support, inspiration, and shared experiences within my artistic network continue to fuel my creativity and drive.
