We had the good fortune of connecting with Hirsch Hunty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hirsch, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks, although may seem daunting at times, have played a significant role in the development of my career. After quarantine, beauty professionals were given the green light to go back to working in the salon. New regulations were placed upon occupancy in salons to ensure social distancing, and only a few of us could work at one time; our hours were cut back, which meant that I couldn’t service all of my clientele I’ve built. It was at this moment that I took a huge risk in going out on my own; I had never been my own business owner, and at 21, this was very risky. This risk was scary, and I was unsure if it was right, but I believed in myself and my worth. I sought out to find my own space immediately after returning to the salon, and within two weeks, I found a space, furnished it, moved in and was ready to service my clientele as my own entity. The pandemic not only showed me the path to entrepreneurship, but it showed me that risk taking is apart of the hustle to become successful.

Throughout my career as a nail artist, nail art has not been easy, but through hard work and perseverance, it has made me the artist that I am today. Starting at 18 years old, I jumped right into the nail industry to pursue my passion for the artistry. With a fundamental knowledge for the craft and little to no practical skills, I sought out to become not only a nail tech, but a nail ARTIST. Learning the foundation behind nails and nail art was not easy, but finding my own avenue in the nail industry was. Often times, I’ve felt the pressure to re-create nails that are trending or to adjust my nails to what is aesthetically pleasing to the industry, and thats natural as a novice, but I knew I wanted to stand out amongst others in the industry in my own way. I took the initiative to show off my personality through my nails and to create art that I wanted to see in the industry, not what the industry wanted from me. I spent hours upon hours behind the chair learning and perfecting my own style of nails. Through hard work and perseverance, I’ve cultivated my unique style of nails; long, embellished, dramatic nails. They are unique to my brand, and they showcase my talent and artistic abilities as a nail artist. In the long run, staying true to myself and my artistry payed off! My work was recognized and went on to be raved by the top professionals in the industry, and even published in NailPro and Allure Magazine. My art is worn on the hands of my clients, who are walking billboards of my style, and are a full representation of my uniqueness as a brand. If I had to define the art I create, my artistry can defined by two words, unapologetically fabulous!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m sincerely grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way, and those who have helped in any way shape or form. I would like to give my sincerest gratitude to my mother, who has been there every step of the way physically or virtually. She has shown me the true meaning of the “hustle and grind” all my life, immigrating to a foreign country and creating her own “white picket fence” life through her career. Her perseverance has helped me mold my ideology behind success. Through all my endeavors that I tackle, she is always there to give me her support, and for that, I want to give my mother her flowers by thanking her for the encouragement she has given me throughout my life and career.
