We had the good fortune of connecting with Herzl Yousefzadeh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Herzl, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After working for my brothers for about 10 years, I realized that I had the potential to create something even better. I spent nights brainstorming and writing down ideas on how I would organize my own store. It took about three years to complete the planning process. One day, I went to a bookstore and bought a startup book that guided me on how to open my own business. I read it thoroughly and used it as a reference throughout the journey.

Financing was the hardest challenge, but with persistence, I was able to overcome that hurdle and bring my vision to life.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Lux Lighting LTD, what sets us apart is our commitment to offering a wide variety of lighting options in one place, where customers can find everything from modern to traditional and transitional styles. I believe in providing a unique shopping experience by utilizing every inch of our store to offer an extensive selection. Unlike many other stores, we aim to ensure customers leave with exactly what they want, even if that means breaking away from the conventional clean, minimal showroom look. This variety is what keeps people coming back, knowing they can find something special here.

I’m proud of the fact that we have built a business that not only provides great products but also offers high-quality customer service. Our ability to repair lamps and chandeliers, along with our in-depth knowledge of lighting, has earned us the trust of our customers. But getting to where we are today was not easy. Starting the business required overcoming numerous challenges, particularly with financing. However, with careful planning, research, and persistence, we were able to push through. It took about three years for the business to really take off, but we never gave up, and that’s what made the difference.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you have to take risks—educated risks. You need to do your research, think things through, and be prepared for challenges. But ultimately, you have to be willing to take the plunge if you want to succeed. I’ve also learned to seize opportunities when they present themselves. Missing out on a chance to purchase my own building was a big lesson for me, and I encourage others not to hesitate when the right opportunity comes along.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting the area for a week, I’d definitely show them the best that the Buckhead area has to offer. It’s my favorite spot because there’s so much to do, from fantastic restaurants to exciting activities. We’d spend the week exploring the area, starting with brunch at some local favorites and then shopping at upscale spots. There’s no shortage of great places to eat, so we’d try a variety of cuisines—ranging from kebab to sushi—while also enjoying some casual hangout spots with great vibes.

We’d mix in some outdoor adventures like nature trails, parks, and even a day trip for some hiking. To add a bit of culture to the trip, we’d visit museums and enjoy the art scene before winding down with the lively nightlife, enjoying rooftop bars and fun lounges.

For a bit of relaxation, we’d spend one day shopping and maybe even hit a spa for some pampering. I’d make sure to balance the trip between action-packed activities and moments to unwind, ensuring that the week is full of great memories and the best the area has to offer.
