We had the good fortune of connecting with Henry Scales. (aka) SKE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Henry, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My toughest thought process was can I do this and turn it into a lucrative business and quit my job and still be able to take care of my family.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is my music that I create and my painting business. With music, as you listen today every kinda sounds the same. With me doing music for as long as I have I had to find a way to stick to being myself but also go with the flow of how music as changed. I don’t want to sound like every other producer so it was kinda hard at times when I wanted to produce beats. I wanted to stand out with my own sound.

How I got to where I am now professionally took alot of determination, sacrifice, and courage. But most Importantly it took belief. Not knowing what’s ahead of me but knowing and believing that what ever comes my way I was going to get through it.

Becoming an entrepreneur is not easy at all. Being a father, and working a regular full time job at times it gets stressful. Some challenges I still deal with but for the most part everything has been going pretty well.

One of the most important things I’ve learned is to never give up. If what your doing is something you loved don’t quit go harder. I also learned that everyone is not go with you to the top.

What I want people to know about my brand and my story is that it’s know different than anyone elses. I created my brand out of the fact that I wanted to be somebody. Whatever I had to do to get there without getting away from the way I raised and losing my morals I’m gonna get there and no one can stop me but me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It all depends on the person and what they like. There’s always something to do in ATL so we could hit the club scene. Go out to nice restaurants or lounges. Things of that nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
