We had the good fortune of connecting with Heaven Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heaven, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I don’t like using the word ‘risk’ anymore. For a couple months now I always say “taking a leap of faith” . Saying risk just give you the mindset to already believe there is a possibility to fail. ( a good friend of mine taught me that!).

Over these last two months I have been taking a leap of faith. I want people to understand no matter your financial freedom, what position you are in, if you have a 9-5, etc. Always do what makes you uncomfortable. This will lead you into doors you wouldn’t have imagine you could open. Always keep your mind on the bigger picture. Never focus on the current situation you are in because that can always change , only if you are WILLING. In order to change you have to step out of your zone and try new things. And that sometimes lead you to doing things you don’t really want to do but taking that step of faith will change your perspective on life . You never know what you might learn/see on new adventures.

The results I have gotten out of taking ‘risk’ is me flying to Atlanta to do 4 interviews for my podcast. I knew nobody there, had no connections , etc. I just had a plan and needed to execute. When I got there I exceeded my expectations and met more people that could benefit me and my career . Got a mentor , and interviewed a man from the United Kingdom! It was like a dream. And if I would’ve never believed I could or if I was stuck in the mindset of nobody believing in me , I wouldn’t have witnessed a elevation in my life .

Another situation this role played in my life , it led me to become a content Director! I always was into content creating but to be a director? I would’ve never thought. But I got a opportunity to work with a modeling company (@bbmodelingcompany) and do a ‘Rebrand Visual’ . This was definitely a risk for me because I never directed anything before let alone a group over 5! But this led me to post more content on my Instagram which led me to working with mortgage bankers, clothing brands and hairstylist. Now I’m a creative director for many and planning a trip to Miami soon to do my second project 🙌🏽. I am more than grateful I have a open mindset and able to not let my current situation take over my future . I am now building my own team for the future. Because my empire will be BIG!

So what I want to say to everyone is YOU HAVE TO NETWORK and put YOURSELF out there in order to exceed! Nothing good is given.

And You can do it alone but it’ll be better with a team.

Also, know that God will never let you experience/ witness certain things if it wasn’t meant for you. It’s just up to you , to secure the lifestyle.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I am most excited about is finally meeting people who serves my purpose in life. It may not be the answer most will give but this means everything to me. To have people who believe in you and support you really will go a long way. Everyone is genuine and work together this is taking us far ! I couldn’t have asked for anything better. A supportive group is NEEDED.

What got me here today was consistency, prayer, faith and effort. It wasn’t easy at all!but I overcame it because I had to keep my eyes on the bigger picture and if I stopped in the bad moments I would’ve been stuck forever. My future is what keep me going . Knowing that I will be financially free and helping my family keep my head on right.

It’s no reason to give up when things are going wrong. Have a understanding of LIFE. Know that things happen and it will never always go your way. You have to accept that and have a positive attitude that you will soon get what you are working for. Nothing rushed is ever great, learn patience. It’s better to overcome the obstacles than dwelling on them. It will only cause you to have insecurity in your craft. Keep your head up and stay self motivated.

The lessons I learned during this process is do not look for support from anyone. Support yourself and the rest will follow. It may get discouraging but remember you are doing this for you. If you don’t believe in yourself how do you expect others to? Stay consistent and push out your work . Even when you think no one is watching … they ALL are .

What I want the world to know about me is I will soon be remembered for my kindness. It don’t have anything to do with my craft , it’s about the kind of person I am. Being genuine to all, and never singling anyone out . I want to help everyone all over the world.

I am my brand. So anything I do will be moved by grace and love. My purpose in life is to help others. Rather it’s in my creative ways or personally. I love being there for people , it makes me feel good. That’s what keeps me going .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a week long trip this where I will take my Bestie’:

Food: Condado ( I love me some good tacos! Quick and yummy. And they have great drinks as well)

Drinks: Mutiny Bar ( I just discovers this. Wonderful presentation and drinks. And the place is nice! 10/10)

Visit: Crab and Karaoke ( I love me some seafood. And you telling me we get to sing too !!? Count me in)

Interesting place to check out : The Detroit Zoo

Fun places : well I like to party so here is where I’ll take someone ( societydetroit, exodosrooftop, north bar and grill) these are the basic places that I go often. Very fun ! 10/10.
