We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayden Still and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayden, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t begin to put much thought into it until I began to really enjoy what I was doing. Once I realized that what I enjoyed could be profitable, I started looking into ways to do sowhile still having fun and learning more about the multimedia space.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Language and how you use it is art. When someone chooses to come have a conversationwith me on the Around The Way podcast, the way they choose to tell their story is important, and the way the conversation is guided is just as important. Storytelling is an art and something that I enjoy most about doing a podcast is that I have a space for guests to use their words to narrate whatever they’re navigating in the moment.
What sets the Around The Way Podcast apart from others is that the conversations here are based on the ideas, history and stories of everyday people. I’ve learned that I absolutely enjoy hearing about guests upbringing andfunny stories and that I actually learn something new each episode, whether it’s how to pick out the correct bra size or how redistricting is affecting voting.
It’s never easy stepping out and doing something that either nobody else or that everyone is doing. The key is to believe in the product that you’re putting out and work towards having it seen, heard, and placed where you want to be.
What I want people to know about the Around The Way brand is that it’s truly an organic situation that’s supported fully by the people that enjoy and believe in what I’m trying to accomplish. I thank and appreciate every stream, view, re tweet and re post.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Cleveland, if you want to have a good time you have to go into and around the city. If you’re looking to feel like a kid again then I’d definitely suggest the 16-bit bar, an arcade bar where you can get food delivered and all games are free while you drink. Now if you’re looking for some good Around The Way food then I’d say visit The Shrimp Boat on Kinsman Rd, yes it’s in the hood, yes it’s worth it. When it comes to just hanging out, there’s a vibe for everyone- it’s all about finding what you’re into. If you’re a gambler there’s the casino downtown and some pretty good night life. If you’re into a calmer vibe then Wade Oval is where you want to be. My friend Raqi does a meditation class there… look her up and check it out. Cleveland also has one of the nations top museums that is also free and is home to the second largest theater district in the US. The city is full all these amazing little gems, you just have to move around to find them.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I credit everything to my tribe, my family, and friends. They’ve always listened, supported, and challenged my ideas- whether to make them better or to push me to have conviction in things I choose to pursue. They’ve also supported in their own way- whether it was monetary, words of encouragement, or help when I couldn’t do something.
