Meet Hayden Short | Music Producer & Audio Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayden Short and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hayden, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
A piece of advice that I receive is, “pursue a ‘normal’ career.” I think music should fall into that category. Music is in all forms of media. From news, to movies and tv, to just general consumption. It’s one of the only facets that people can express their emotions from, and I think that makes it a viable career. There’s a lot to do within the industry too. I truly believe music is one of the best careers a person could try. Some of the biggest producers in the world spend more time studying and creating music than most 9-5 employees. There are a lot of opportunities that come with music, it’s just about timing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I live in a small town, where it is very out of the ordinary for people to pursue their creative outlets as a career. I think being open minded to new ideas is what sets me apart most from the popular crowd. I want to experiment, try new ideas, and work on many different projects. I get very excited when I hear new releases from artists that I enjoy listening to, and it inspires me to keep going! I had actually listened to one of the artists I had been a fan of for some time, and decided to DM him on a whim. That was honestly the hardest part, because it takes a lot of courage to reach out to someone who has no idea who you are, or what you do. But he responded, and since then, we’ve been working on projects and songs since. I’ve learned how to create for musicians, and how to give inspiration as well! I think I would want the world to know that no matter where you are from, all it takes is one yes to carry you the rest of the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where I live, there is a lot of wildlife and mountains. I would take someone on one of the many hiking trails and ski mountains I live by. They are gorgeous! I would also take them to one of my favorite Italian restaurants, Carelli’s. They have some of the best pizza I have ever had!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friends have always been my support system involving music. They keep me up to date on what people want to hear, tell me if I’m on the right track, or explain to me what I need to work on. Surrounding myself with people who want to push me forward motivates me to be the best person that I can be, while still following my dreams and being successful along the way.
