We had the good fortune of connecting with Hans Kenemer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hans, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love anything related to film, and from early childhood, I had my sights set on pursuing it as a career. There wasn’t, and still isn’t, anything else I could picture myself doing. I was fortunate enough to study the craft in university – first at Georgia State University and most recently at the Savannah College of Art & Design. As my career began to develop, I found myself in search of a path that not only provided work in the industry, but also the ability to tell my own stories and help others do the same. Fortunately, while working on a student documentary, I met my current business partners, Danil Pervukhin and Ethan Becker, who share the same passion and drive. While discussing our futures, we spawned the idea for PYX Studios, a film equipment rental company.
There are two essential, yet often frustrating to source, pieces to making a film – crew and equipment. We provide both, ensuring that filmmakers have access to everything they need to turn their ideas into reality. Whether it is a small, one-day production or a long-term narrative feature, we are excited to collaborate with any and all filmmakers with the desire to make something great.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Like I said, I am one of the lucky few who knew from a young age what I wanted to do. Growing up, my dad was a bit of a camera-collector, and I spent much of my childhood messing around with them, creating my own little “short films” with my friends. I received my own camera at 13, and I instantly decided I wanted to learn everything I possibly could about how to use it. After graduating high school, I faced the dilemma of pursuing a “safer” degree or pursuing my passion. I chose the safer route, but after only a month of computer science classes, I knew the traditional path was not for me. I switched my major to film and later transferred to SCAD for my bachelor’s. It was at SCAD that I truly refined my skills as a cinematographer. It was also at SCAD that I met my business partners and formed the idea for PYX Studios.
Currently, much of my focus lies in developing as a business, but luckily for me, that primarily entails collaborating with other filmmakers on some amazing projects. We have worked on music videos, documentaries, and short films, and I look forward to expanding that list as time goes on. The film industry in Atlanta is quickly developing, and we, as a company, are nothing but enthusiastic on being a part of that growing community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re not from Atlanta, I recommend visiting Little 5 Points or East Atlanta Village. Little 5 Points is filled with novelty shops and artist markets. East Atlanta Village is similar, but with much more of a focus on restaurants and bars. Both are fantastic to take a stroll through. If you want to watch some films, I highly recommend going to the Plaza Theater. It’s Atlanta’s oldest running theater and is constantly hosting specialty showings. Of course, I wouldn’t be talking about Atlanta if I didn’t mention the nature. There are tons of trails around the city to take a hike and get away from all of the concrete of downtown. One of my current favorites is the East Palisades Trail.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been a countless number of people who have both supported and motivated me – my friends, my family, my girlfriend. Though, I’d like to specifically recognize Danil Pervukhin and Ethan Becker, without whom PYX Studios would not exist. Not only are they my business partners and friends, but they are also two of the most talented individuals I know, who continue to inspire me both as a filmmaker and business owner.
