Meet Halle Hughes: Student & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Halle Hughes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Halle, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is “go with the flow.” I used to be a believer in this piece of advice, but then I realized that going with the flow does not allow an individual to create their own path. Going with the flow just lets you sit back and do what everyone else is doing- which sometimes can be a good thing, but other times can stop you from chasing your dreams. I was saw a billboard that said, “only dead fish go with the flow,” and that was when I realized in order to be a trail blazer, you cannot go with the flow. I have always been a go-getter, chasing after what I want, and that indeed, is not going with the flow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main product is a shark tooth necklace, all of which the shark teeth are found on the beach and locally in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. I hand-wrap the wire around the shark teeth and then attach them to the necklace chain. Something that sets me apart from others is that my products are hand-crafted and locally found. I want the world to know that I am just getting started in my professional life and that I have so many entrepreneurial ideas I hope to pursue. I hope to see Halle Tate evolve into a lifestyle brand and/or start other small businesses.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, right outside Jacksonville on the East Coast of Florida. Ponte Vedra is a well-kept secret with one of the widest and prettiest beaches in Florida. If my best friend was visiting for the weekend, I would eat dinner at Flying Iguana in Neptune Beach and then maybe hit up Hoptinger after, a bar in Jax Beach. I would wake up early, go for a beach run or do a workout outside. After the workout, I would take my friend to Bold Bean Coffee Roasters for the best latte in town and also Florida Juice & Bowl for a post-workout acai bowl. After getting a workout done in the morning, we would spend the full day at the beach, laying out, looking for sharks teeth, paddleboarding, and relaxing. Another fun and exciting day trip to do in Jacksonville is visit St. Augustine, about 30 miles south of Ponte Vedra. My weekends are full of good times but relaxing and fulfilling times!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My whole family is full of entrepreneurs, so shoutout to everyone in my family and extended family who have inspired me to also start a small business.
