We had the good fortune of connecting with Halimah Shah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Halimah, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Mount Vernon, New York. It’s basically the Bronx’s next door neighbor. I was born in the city of urban fashion and attitude. Growing up in New York, I’ve experienced so much culture, from African culture, Latino, and afro Latino. It’s a mixing bowl of flair and flavor. If you ever want to get inspired.. go to New York. Learning from what I’ve experienced, I am able to use my self expression through fashion and the influence I was raised around as a little girl. Just like New York, I can never settle with just one simple aesthetic.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This whole journey started off with me being bored in my room during quarantine in 2020. I didn’t take it seriously until I realized people actually found me entertaining. Ever since then, I have been blessed with amazing and supportive followers, ambassador opportunities, and connected with influencers I spent years looking up to. However, there have been times I have fallen flat, and felt lost. One thing I have learned was to never overthink your creativity, because then it’s not as genuine. I would spend hours, days, and weeks trying to think of what would be good enough. Doing that made me lose myself, and self confidence. The moment I told myself to let go and just “do me” I realized my profession could be more fun, easy, and true to myself.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Family is all I’ve ever had through the easiest simplest of times, and through the tragedies and hardships. I can always be my truest self and see no judgement, I can shoot for the stars and they would tell me to reach a universe.
