We had the good fortune of connecting with Halima Hussein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Halima, how do you think about risk?
Trust your instinct and intuition. And that is harder to do when you are younger, instinct and intuition I believe is something that is developed after time and self-growth. Taking the risks I have taken so far, has given the confidence to open up and try new things I would generally be unsure of. The risk has allowed me to step into the essence of who I am, want to be and inspiration to keep going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Funny enough starting “What’s Your Hustle Podcast” came from a Beyonce’s “Lemonade” the visual album, it was the intro to “All Night Long” as she read’s aloud the poetry by Warsan Shire’s, the one line, “So we’re going to heal. We’re gonna start again” I wanted to start a platform that welcome all guests to talk about their hustles, side-hustles, inspirations and hobbies, and how working on these things that bring them back to their reasons of why, happiness and healing, while working on their mental health.

I am so proud of the fact that through this platform I along with my guests get to tell real stories and have real conversations that highlight people of all walks of life. For myself personally, this platform has allowed me to become a confident woman that the younger me never thought of.

After starting in 2019, it was just a fun thought I had, talking to people and getting back to what brings people happiness; but how would I do it? And thank God literally for google. I googled everything and went from there. To be honest, the process itself was not and is never easy when the logistics of being the editor as well as, coordinating guests does not always go to plan. But I have learned that not everything can be planned and late nights of troubleshooting or rearranging episodes has become an art within itself.

We all have stories and voices that are to be shared and hopefully inspire others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As I reside in Edmonton, Alberta Canada – for me, the best time to visit is July, August and September. The weather is beautiful and there are so many things to do. I love Tiramisu Bistro on 124 Street. It is perfect for brunch (and black owned which is always a bonus). After that, depending on when you visit there are so many festivals such as the Cariwest Caribbean Arts Festival in August which is my favorite because, there is a huge parade in downtown Edmonton and after that, everyone meets in the square and there is food, music and people just having an amazing time. If you are looking for some of the best food, Edmonton has no shortage of that. I would head over to Whyte Avenue, there is Block 1912 cafe where you could grab a gelato and just walk around popping into all of the little shops and have dinner at a variety of restaurants such as, Yanni’s, Julio’s Barrio, Avila Arepa and so many more through out Edmonton.

During my time in Atlanta, I was able to catch a show at the historic Fox Theatre and Chai Pani Decatur – definitely recommend the SPDP
