We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Loehfelm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haley, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It is simply the way my brain works. I see design in everything, from the way bricks are laid and decayed over time to the way a personality translates through handwriting. I believe that everyone is hardwired to think and act a certain way, which is why we have great doctors, engineers, actors, influencers, business owners, educators, etc. My purpose is to use the beauty of design to make this world a better place. Specifically, I want to make a positive impact on the environment and use creative problem-solving to battle issues like climate change. I hope that my work encourages us to think outside of ourselves to protect our beautiful Planet. This starts with accessibility – accessibility to education and resources that make it achievable and convenient to understand how our lifestyles can be sustainable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Savannah College of Art and Design. I have struggled to label my work as “graphic design” because it crosses the bridge between fine art, UX design, industrial design, photography, illustration, culinary arts, literature, biology, and more. I am blessed to go to an incredible art school where I have the freedom to explore my passions and create a foundation in many different areas. Fortunately, I have been able to be involved in many clubs, film crews, galleries, and jobs. I have gained professional experience in UX through an internship for Ekko Studios and a SCADpro with Fidelity Investments. Last Spring, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a Print and Pattern Designer Apprentice for L.L. Bean with the Graphics amazing team. I recently finished working in Miami for EDGLRD, a new company that is forward-thinking in film, video games, fashion, skate, engineering, and AI technology. I will be graduating in March and am looking forward to the next chapter of my professional career. I hope to continue to make a positive difference in this world through impactful design.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Savannah is such a unique city!! I love how walkable it is. I would encourage anyone to spend time walking around through the beautiful blocks. I love Forsyth Park, a great place to work, read, relax, work out, etc. In Forsyth, there is an excellent farmer’s market every Saturday morning. There are also some fun events like the Jazz Fest! If you’re stocking up for a picnic, I recommend stopping by Provisions to get some locally sourced-food and drinks. Asher + Rye has delicious coffee/tea and beautiful home goods. Some of the best sandwiches in Savannah can be found at Black Rabbit, a small bar with great food, great drinks, and great vibes. You can find delicious fries, burgers, and beer at Moodright’s and Over Yonder. One of my favorite stores in Savannah is Starlandia, an art supplies consignment shop that has the best deals on materials, tools, scraps, and crafts. If you have a car, I would also recommend hiking at Skidaway State Park, there’s a small tower with a great view of the marsh. Savannah is also a short drive to Tybee Island, and I would recommend spending a day at this fun island town surrounded by the ocean.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family. I owe them everything I am and will be.

My older sister, Lexi, is studying at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and absolutely kicking butt. Lexi has spent her whole life bringing happiness and health to everyone she meets, and she is going to become an incredible and trusted doctor. Lexi inspires me to stand up for myself and others and to always do the right thing. She has shown me how to approach any situation calmly and confidently. Lexi is the best big sister in the world.
My two little sisters, Kylie and Riley, are the funniest people in the world. They are incredibly gifted at everything they do, from sports to crafts to singing and dancing. They are volleyball all-stars and are currently playing together on Varsity for their high school. During the club season, they travel the country to compete at a National level. They are smart, kind, beautiful, and talented. Kylie and Riley have good hearts and will change the world with their passion and patience.
I love my sisters. We are so lucky to have two amazing parents who have done everything they can to give us a good life, and what a good life we have. My mom and dad work harder than anyone I have ever met. Growing up, my sisters and I were all involved in many sports and after-school activities, and my parents were always there to support us. They are always there for us, even while juggling multiple jobs or even living on different sides of the country like we currently are. I am so blessed that my parents have pushed the importance of education, being kind, and helping others. They taught us to be good people by being good people.

My parents and my sisters are the reason I am the person I am, and I am so grateful for them.
