We had the good fortune of connecting with Hailey Curtis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hailey, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
In December of 2020 when I was laid off of my job due to COVID budget cuts, I was faced to make a really difficult decision. Do I continue to pursue a graphic design career that I invested five years of experience into or do I pivot to something else? I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur but felt so comfortable with my safe graphic design career. This safe graphic design career was far from fulfilling. In fact, it took more from my life than it gave to it. When I was laid off from my corporate job, I took it as a sign that it was time to leap into full time entrepreneurship. That difficult decision led to more and more difficult decisions that has shaped me into the successful business owner I am today. I run my own life coaching business and also have a social media management business called DesignBee. That difficult decision in December of 2020 changed my life forever and I always ask myself why I didn’t do it sooner.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have two businesses: life coaching and a digital branding agency.
My life coaching business launched in March 2020. This was an effort to start a more fulfilling career while still having a full time job. The plan was to make a leap one day into full time entrepreneurship. I became a certified life coach in August 2020. I have now helped several women accomplish their goals fueled by self love. I offer one on one coaching services that provide clarity around your goals while also mirroring any old patterns or beliefs that are preventing you from moving forward. Coaching has made such a positive impact in my life. I work right alongside my clients as I am very passionate about personal development. Life coaching really enables me to fulfill my passion of helping others. I feel like I really make a positive impact in my client’s lives and its the best feeling ever to have that job. My digital branding agency, DesignBee, was created after I was laid off in December 2020. I knew I needed another stream of income so I merged all of my talents of social media knowledge, content creation, and branding under one roof. We help our clients streamline branding across all social media platforms. DesignBee offers social media management, content creation, graphic design and website management. We offer full social media take overs as well as consulting sessions. In these sessions, I put my coaching hat on and help people accomplish their social media goals. We co-create content together and my agency creates the graphics and content to post. DesignBee has worked with Botica, Cubanos ATL, Southern Local Nuts, Atlantic Grill and more local businesses in Atlanta.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love everything Atlanta has to offer! My favorite recommendations are seeing Jackson Street Bridge, walking through Krog Street Tunnel admiring the street art, and going on a long walk or bike ride on the Beltline.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really don’t think I would have made the leap into full time entrepreneurship if it weren’t for the support of my boyfriend, sister and parents. They have consistently been there for me with all the ups and downs that come with owning a business. They gave me the emotional support I so desperately needed when first starting out. They still unconditionally support me to this day and it means the world to me.
