Meet GYD Josh Burnel | Urban Streetwear Clothing Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with GYD Josh Burnel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi GYD Josh Burnel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always knew I wanted to be my own boss. This desire was ingrained in me from a young age, observing my father navigate the challenges of running his own construction company. Back then, I couldn’t fully grasp the significance of his journey, and even now, I don’t claim to understand it completely. Nevertheless, it left an indelible impression on me, shaping my vision of the life I wanted to lead.
It took me years to pinpoint exactly what I wanted to build. Like many young adults, I was navigating life’s uncertainties, searching for my path.
The pivotal moment came when I moved to the USA—an experience that transformed my perspective in ways I couldn’t have anticipated. Suddenly, I felt a profound hunger for success and an infectious optimism.
So here I am, still on that journey, but now equipped with an unyielding determination. Then, on New Year’s Day 2020, everything changed. A friend and I were jotting down goals for the upcoming year, and among them was a clothing brand—a revelation that sparked a new direction for me.
The primary goal of our brand is to create a community – a family – of individuals who express themselves through their fashion choices and lifestyles. This creativity drives us forward.
This is who we are, and we take pride in it. So, whenever you spot a fellow family member rocking our Dripp, don’t hesitate to greet them with a cheerful ‘Wasssssuuupppp!!’.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art blends urban streetwear with unique innovation, reflecting my personal style and perspective. Building my brand wasn’t easy, I faced challenges in finding my niche and building a customer base. Through persistence and mentorship, I overcame obstacles and learned valuable lessons in authenticity and adaptability.
I want the world to know that my brand is rooted in passion for urban culture. I aim to inspire self-expression and individuality through my art, contributing to the dynamic landscape of contemporary streetwear. Thank you for your interest in my journey!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a week in Atlanta with my best friend, we’d explore historic sites like the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and the High Museum of Art. We’d hike along the Atlanta BeltLine and take a day trip to Chattahoochee National Forest for outdoor fun.
We’d enjoy Southern cuisine at Buttermilk Kitchen and diverse eats at Ponce City Market. Catching a game or concert at State Farm Arena or Truist Park would be a highlight.
We’d also relax in parks like Piedmont Park and shop at Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. Atlanta offers a perfect blend of history, nature, food, and entertainment for a memorable trip!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family. They have been incredibly supportive and encouraging throughout my journey. Their love, guidance, and belief in me have played a vital role in my success and personal growth. I owe a great deal of credit and recognition to them for always being there for me.
