We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Hendry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Greg, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had the desire to build something of my own. After spending most of my adult life in sales and management roles for various corporations, I realized I wasn’t truly passionate about what I was doing. Even with strong sales performance and meaningful client relationships, I knew my financial security and future were ultimately out of my control. The first time I was laid off was on the first day of a beautiful beach vacation with my wife—laid off by a brand new manager who had just joined the company and chose to layoff many team members. Ironically, this manager coincidentally owned a house at that same beach. It became clear that no matter how hard I worked, my future depended on larger business decisions made by upper management—decisions that often turned corporations in the wrong direction and overlooked the individuals who drive the business forward. Sales roles are frequently the first to go during tough times, and I found myself grappling with the reality that my efforts were tied to factors beyond my influence.

When I was laid off a second time, I found out just minutes after pulling up to meet with clients, having driven two hours for a sales training. At that moment, I faced a pivotal decision: return to the routine of corporate sales, where I would have to pretend to be passionate about products I didn’t truly believe in, or take a risk and bet on myself. This experience opened my eyes to the disconnect between leadership decisions and the people who execute the strategies that generate revenue. I realized that the well-being of those at the ground level is often sacrificed for the sake of broader corporate goals.

After a heartfelt discussion with my wife, who has been incredibly supportive from day one, I decided to take 12 months to invest my savings and build something I was truly passionate about. This conversation was a turning point; her belief in my vision solidified my resolve. I mapped out a plan to leverage my skills and experiences in a way that felt authentic to me.

Since then, the journey has been filled with challenges, from learning the ins and outs of running a business to facing the inevitable hurdles of entrepreneurship. Yet, every setback has brought valuable lessons that have shaped both my business and personal growth. I’ve learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the necessity of staying true to my vision, even when the path isn’t clear.

Ultimately, I wouldn’t change a thing about this journey. I can honestly say my company is performing better than I could have ever dreamed of. The rewarding feeling of creating something meaningful and the opportunity to build a company that reflects my values is worth every sacrifice. This experience has reaffirmed my belief that taking risks can lead to incredible opportunities, reminding me that passion should always guide our decisions. Now, I strive to create an environment in my own business that values the contributions of every individual, ensuring that the lessons I’ve learned inform my leadership style and decisions moving forward.

What should our readers know about your business?
At William & Fields Media, what sets us apart is that we’re not just a real estate photography company—we’re an “all-in-one” solution for real estate agents. Early on, I realized that agents don’t want to juggle multiple vendors for photos, videos, drone shots, and more. The easier I could make their lives, the more valuable my services would be. So, we offer everything a real estate agent could need when it comes to media: photos, videos, drone shots, 3D virtual tours, floor plans, and even Instagram Reels.

Our Instagram Reels are particularly popular; these 60-second walkthroughs feature unique editing that highlights the best aspects of each property, making them engaging and visually appealing. Almost every agent adds an Instagram Reel to their order because they recognize the impact it has on attracting potential buyers.

But what’s even more exciting is what happens after we deliver the media. We automatically provide our clients with professional marketing materials—flyers, postcards, social media posts—and a single property website hosted on its own domain to showcase their listing. It gives agents a complete package to market their properties without the hassle. Our backend platform is like a “Canva” for real estate media—clients can create their own materials or use the pre-made ones we’ve crafted for them, saving time and effort.

On top of that, our editing team can handle advanced requests, from virtual staging with digital furniture to turning a daytime photo into a stunning sunset shot. Virtual staging, in particular, has become increasingly popular as it allows agents to showcase properties more effectively without the high costs associated with physical staging. This flexibility enables agents to present properties in the best light possible, every time.

Getting to where we are today hasn’t been easy. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of challenges, especially in the beginning. Building a business from the ground up means long hours, sacrifices, and a steep learning curve. But what kept me going was my passion for providing something truly valuable to my clients. I’ve learned that adaptability and a commitment to consistently delivering great results are key. If you stay focused on solving your clients’ problems, success will follow.

Ultimately, I want people to know that William & Fields Media is more than just a media company—we’re a partner to real estate agents, helping them market and sell properties more efficiently and effectively. We take pride in offering a service that’s both high quality and easy to use, and we’re always looking for ways to innovate and grow alongside our clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends came into town, we’d definitely plan it around a Georgia Bulldogs game—gotta cheer on the Dawgs! Hanging out in downtown Athens would be a must. We’d also have to hit up Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q. Fox Bros. is fantastic. We’d check out Ponce City Market or Atlantic Station, and of course, the BeltLine would be on the itinerary too. There’s a great restaurant down there that serves brunch that is really good. I believe the restaurant’s name is LadyBird. Plus, we’d take a trip way outside the city to Blue Ridge to explore some mountain towns and hit a couple of off-road trails. It’d be an epic trip for sure!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, my shoutout goes to my wife. She’s been my rock throughout this entire journey. When I made the decision to leave behind the stability of a corporate career to chase my passion, she didn’t just support me—she believed in the dream and helped me map out the plan. Without her unwavering encouragement and support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I’d also like to recognize a book that had a big influence on my mindset: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It’s all about the concept of manifestation—the idea that your thoughts and intentions shape your reality. This book introduced me to the power of positive thinking, visualizing success and living my life as if I already had achieved it. When I was in the early stages of building my business, this mindset was crucial. Manifestation taught me to focus not on the obstacles, but on the outcome I wanted. By keeping my thoughts aligned with my goals, I was able to maintain confidence and push through challenges. It’s not just about wishful thinking; it’s about believing- to your core- in your ability to create the future you envision.
