We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Greg, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Atlanta Vintage Guitars is a living breathing thing on its own, due to our previous founder, and some of the amazing guitars that passed through his doors when the store was located in Smyrna GA, I really had no business opening a brick and mortar store but I did, as I am very committed to growing the store and surviving in this very uncertain climate, by focusing on the things folk like about the store! My vision has been and keeps being, if I were a guitar player and loved guitars and all the things that go with them, what would I want to see in a guitar store. We do sell expensive vintage items, but I came up with the phrase Affordable Vintage and also Where Guitar Lovers Shop !!! So I usually work 6 days a week 9-11 hours a day and the will to keep going to do whatever it takes to make customers happy and keep them coming back !

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Atlanta Vintage Guitars is known for being where the pros or on the cusp of being pros come for great deals on gear, Because Spencer and I still perform regularly locally, together and with others. So folks know when they come in asking for advice we are not just blowing smoke ! I am also a songwriter and have put out 1 double CD and have another 3 CD’s worth of material just waiting. My music is more like stories of my life and paying tribute to my heros of songwriting, Gram Parsons, Gary Stewart. Eric Clapton, Don Williams, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and so many others. One song of mine Cotton Mill seems to touch peoples hearts everytime I play it !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let me see. for fun I would probably take them to Woodstock, or Little 5 points and they would either have to eat at the Varsity or Brandies world famous hotdogs. For Italian .it would have to be Tuscany or Frankies , and then I guess to Eddies Attic or The Red Clay Theatre …and if they wanted a steak …I would take them to the Downtown Kitchen in Canton !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Spencer Kirkpatrick, is an Atlanta GA music community treasure! At 15 he opened up for the Beatles with the Atlanta Vibrations, then a series of bands that eventually led to the formation of HYDRA , without a doubt one of the heaviest rock bands to ever come out of the south. They opened and headlined over so many of the classic rock acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Blue Oyster Cult, Humble Pie,ZZ Top, Mountain, Procol Harum only to name a few. After three Albums the band dissolved. And then Spencer played with the legendary Ron Kimble who would play around Atlanta for years at many of the most popular clubs in Atlanta. I have heard about Spencer since I was 14 or 15 and I am now 65 !! When I was able to open a store I knew that Spencer would bring us much needed credibility cause even though I have played hundreds of gigs , I was not really known in Atlanta as a player much !! So for the past 12 years or so Spencer has played a major part in our success without question !!!
