We had the good fortune of connecting with Gracie Dorr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gracie, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important thing someone can be is themselves. I think a lot of people get caught up in trying to be someone else or act a certain way to get a job, get people to like you, to fit in. The most important factor in my job specifically has been to just be authentic. Also, giving my couples their own authentic love story is what really makes you successful as a wedding videographer. All of the years and emotions they have put into each other. If you can’t capture that, it doesn’t matter how well you can film or edit. The most important factor behind my business and my success is letting people be themselves. It really does shine through and people can definitely tell.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is different. Not in a weird sense but it’s just different. There’s so many logistics that go into filming and editing, operating a camera and running a business. Yet, if you’re not being creative enough, you’re not going to grow. I think both things are challenges because I personally am not a business person so that’s a BIG learning curve. The other side of it is pushing myself to be creative yet still keep the integrity of the wedding video. I’m most excited about growing my business. I’m really really looking forward to filming more destination weddings or elopements so I can use that creativity of being in a new place as fuel. It’s actually crazy how filming in a new place can make you feel like its your first wedding all over again (in a good way)!
I just want everyone to realize that we are just people behind the cameras. From your photographers to videographers. We want everything to turn out perfect just like you and we really do try our best to make that happen!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow, Atlanta (Kennesaw) has so many great and diverse eats and hang outs! I would say if we were venturing into the city, Cafe intermezzo is my favorite dessert and drinks place with the best ambiance. Ponce City Market is pretty fun and has lots of great foods and things to do! Marietta square has some cute breweries and places to eat as well!
Venturing further out of the city (north), There is an amazing Vietnamese bistro that my boyfriend and I go to all the time called 575. That is definitely our comfort food! When we aren’t working, we are usually hanging out with our friends at our house, or going to disc golf at Oregon Park in Marietta. Our usual cheap hang out spot where we could spend hours eating and drinking close to home is Pisano’s in downtown Kennesaw for some awesome pizza and pasta and then walking to the Horned Owl Brewery for some beers!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents definitely supported me doing what I love from day 1. Granted, they didn’t realize I would drop out of college to pursue this idea but they put smiles on their faces and said, “if that’s what you love and you can make at least some money doing it, it’s a great idea”. I also had an internship many years ago where my bosses were absolutely amazing and taught me so so well and really taught me there was so much more to the world of video than what I had thought.
Lastly, my best friend and boyfriend have been with me every step of the way and have supported me in the highs and the lows!
