Meet Good Karma | The Dance Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Good Karma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Good, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Good Karma helps the community by creating a safe place for others to share not just the dance floor but come together to strengthen their fitness and Faith within themselves . Good Karma is a reminder that you can redefine yourself as many times as you need, Their are no rules! It reminds you to embrace every aspect of yourself. and represents true togetherness to build community through dance fitness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Good Karma is what I like to say “Saves me” over and over again. I could have the worst day and know at 7pm on a Monday night I get to walk into the studio and suddenly all my problems don’t matter. I GET TO to show up for others. That is my why. I suffered in silence for a long time also loosing my mother to cancer back in 2014. I gained the most weight I ever had and simply stopped caring for myself. One day I had enough and said “I need to do something that makes me feel good” I was desperate and was tired of coping with the unhealthy things. I remember what my first love was. Which is dance! I found the nearest dance class near me in Atlanta and never stopped dancing! It healed me a little bit each time!
After awhile I fell in love with the process and slowly found myself dropping weight. And I’m not just talking Physically! I felt like myself again. That feeling felt so free and I simply wanted to share it with others! A lot of people suffer in silence and show up as if nothing is bothering them. I was that person! I have always had a heart to help others and simply did not know how or what route I wanted to go. With deep thought and talks with my now fiancé I casually mentioned to him “What if I did something in fitness” He asked me what exact lane did I see myself in and with no hesitation I said ” Dance! I want to teach women how to feel good in their body and someday open my own dance studio” And boom there it was. The thing I was searching for was already within, Sometimes we already have the answer, but we sometimes don’t hear ourselves because of our current circumstances.
Long story short although it’s still long (He-He) I connected with current instructors I knew and became a student! I was a beginner which is what I love to tell my students. I found a format I loved which is “Turn Up Dance Fitness” and have shared my love for it with others ever since. It has been the hardest thing I have ever done, but rewarding, Showing up no matter what the circumstances are, How many people come that day..Or don’t, And also battling grief never stopped me from trying again and again. I overcome the challenges by remembering how precious life is after loosing the two most important women in my life. We are not here for long, Everyday is a blessing and we all have a choice. On the hard days I tell myself “I GET TO DO THIS”
I am mostly proud of all my students or people that come to my class for the first time with those same fears and doubts I once had literally transform into a confident dancer. I tell my students all the time to “Stay out of your head and into your body” Be present and leave it all on the floor. I truly love what I do and forever thankful for the support I receive.
My motto is “You have to feel to heal” Those tough times made me who I am today and I’m so blessed to see the other side to also remind others of the light they also posses.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well first stop we are going to a dance studio lol I would say “Creative rental space”. You can literally take any type of dance class. The owner is also very dope and personable. And of course after all the dancing we will be hungry so I will never deny going to one of my favorite taco places “Real Tacos” I can literally eat there everyday!
I am also a nature girly and one thing I appreciate about Georgia is the greenery! You can catch us Roswell mill where they have the beautiful waterfall or Sope creek Trails for the chance to sit on a nice rock on the water and just be present with Gods beauty,
Also a nice walk downtown Atlanta always sets the vibes. Maybe catch a Hawks game! or a ride on the ferris wheel although Im terrified haha

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will attempt to write this without shedding a tear! But I must give recognition to my Nana that recently lost her battle to cancer (Cancer sucks!) Her resilience and will to fight regardless of the cards life dealt her gave me strength and motivation to keep going! She was just a phone call away when I started to build my buisness. Many days I would call her discouraged and wanting to quit because my classes at one point were not growing. Most days I would show up waiting for at least one person to come through the door and would be disappointed if nobody came. I knew on the way home I could call my nana and she would give me my 100th “Don’t Give up” talk. She reminded me to remember why I started and one of the last things she said to me was “Get back to Atlanta. People need to dance”I was visiting her to take care of her when she was on hospice and I just knew and felt the days were closing in. I miss calling her and hearing her say “Heyyy Karma” it lit up my world not matter what kind of day I had. *Inserts tears. I miss her so much! She’s there with my mother dancing in heaven I’m sure,
