Meet Golden Armstrong | Fashion Boutique Extraordinaire

We had the good fortune of connecting with Golden Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Golden, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was simple…I wanted to be my own boss! While I was in my corporate job they had control over how many vacation and personal days I was allowed each year. Then the question became, what constitutes a personal day versus a vacation day? Just going through the process of having to “request” time off really started becoming a problem for me, especially when it involved activities related to my family or to my well being. I didn’t like the idea of having an allotted amount of days to decide how and when to use them. It felt very restricted. Being my own boss has been a tremendous benefit not only to my family but to my mental and physical health as well. For me, starting my own business was never about the money, but it was about giving myself the freedom to do what I wanted or being available for my family without having to go through someone for approval or running out of days.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Golden Chic is an online exclusive fashion boutique where I believe you should look like money without spending all your money! What sets Golden Chic a part from other boutiques is our dedication to our customers. Golden Chic goes above and beyond to make sure that every experience is a Golden Chic experience. I don’t call my customers, customers, I refer to them as golden chic babes. That’s because they are more than just my customers, they actually mean something to me. I try to be sure that I incorporate some form of thanks to everyone that supports my business. Sometimes that is through a card, a text, a phone call or a social media shout out. I want them to know that without them, my dream would not be possible. While business can sometimes tough and unpredictable, being appreciative and showing gratitude is always easy.
I got where I am today with my business through perseverance and consistency. Starting off in business is never easy. You have to work to gain the trust of your audience. Let’s face it, they are buying online, so many people already have a bit hesitancy and distrust. In order to break down that barrier, I let people see that I am a real person and that what they are ordering looks exactly as it is pictured. I show up even when no one else does. Meaning, if no one purchases anything, likes, comments or shares my social post, I am still going to be there. I am still going to let the people know that I keep showing up. When I get discouraged, I always go back to why I started and find the strength to keep going and find another reason to keep showing up. I want the world to know that Golden Chic is more than a brand, it is an experience!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in ATL include having brunch at Breakfast at Barney’s and going to The National Center for Civil and Human Rights for some cultural and educational enrichment. I also love hibachi and Fumi Atlanta is another favorite spot of mine. If you have family coming it’s always good to eat the Atlanta breakfast club for brunch then visit the Georgia aquarium and Coca Cola museum. If you’re a steak eater like myself then visiting STK or American Cut will satisfy your steak fix!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be able to enjoy my life as an entrepreneur without the support of my husband and mother. They are my right and left hands. Whether it’s sewing a financial seed into my business or packing an order, I can always count on them to lend a hand. They have been there encouraging me when I didn’t think I had what it took to start my own business. I am also grateful for my best friends Letitia Greenway owner of Joyful Bridges, LLC and Kristina Lopez owner of Klopez Fitness. They have helped me tremendously with branding, personalization and promotion. Lastly, My sister Tiffany, for always sharing my posts and supporting my endeavors. I could not have made my dream a reality without their love, support and encouragement. I am not sure what I did right to deserve this group of supporters but whatever it is, I am glad I did it.
