We had the good fortune of connecting with Glenn Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Glenn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a child, it was always my dream to act, write and produce. Instead of waiting for others to reach out and hire me I decided to create my own opportunities. As a result, I launched my own production company GdJ Productions. When I started this company my vision was to revive, inspire and create.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been acting professionally since 2012. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I’m willing to write and produce about issues most writers would shy away from. Considering I am a Christian and want to produce faith based productions, sitcoms and films. However, it’s extremely important to me to not water down issues and meet people where they are. So if you attend one of my productions you might hear some things you normally wouldn’t in any other Christian movie or production.

It was not easy getting to where I am now. I relocated to Atlanta, GA in 2017 from Saint Louis, MO with one goal in mind and that was to act, write and produce. Putting on a stage production is not for the weak especially if you want to produce something of great quality. I didn’t have funding or marketing behind me. For my first production which was 10-22-22, I had a little over 200 people in attendance.

I overcame the financial challenges of producing my first production by working for Lyft/Uber, selling flavored pound cakes, working overtime, and of course taking out loans in hopes of making a profit to pay the bills.

The most valuable lesson I learned is to not be so hard on myself, take my time, and have staff/volunteers in place to take on issues that may arise. For my first production I not only wrote and produced it but I also was the leading character.

I want the world to know that there is a new playwright on the horizon and I’m coming for the crown. I want to revolutionize stage productions and give the world an experience they haven’t seen before. I also want the world to know there is life after all trauma not matter that what my be. How will you play the hand you were dealt.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoot out my church, Embassy City Church under the leadership of Bryan and Patrice Meadows. Embassy City Church has supported me in every way imaginable. Getting my first stage production done was not an easy task. Because we are a church of creatives, they believed in my vision and with the help of Abba did not allow my to fail.
