We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
One habit I believe helps me to succeed is that I can be very self-disciplined. I do well with a schedule and organization. I am able to tell myself, “I will work during these hours,” and stick to that. I make a checklist of what I want to accomplish during that time & work on marking it all off. I like a good visual of what I am fulfilling, whether it be orders or new items for my shop.

After eight years as a part-time student, I graduated from Liberty University in 2022. Working full-time, and taking care of a house and a family, it took me a while to accomplish this, but I set aside several hours after Dinner, as well as many weekends, to complete my coursework. I was diligent and stuck with it to graduate Summa Cum Laude. Being diligent and self-disciplined helped me achieve this, and I know it will help me in all of my endeavors.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been a creative person. I think my work sets me apart from others because I like to add a personal flair to it, especially custom pieces. In my shadowboxes, I love to use fun backgrounds, bright colors, and themed little items to make them stand out more.

Nothing worth having is ever easy. There are always challenges and lessons learned. I have gained so much over the years about how I want my business to grow and succeed. I have gone through some hardships throughout my life and career. One thing is certain, I never give up. I always pick myself back up and keep moving forward. I try new things and they do not always come out well, but I keep trying until I get it. I am proud of this because it has taught me so much and helped me to be more resilient.

I am excited about the new items I am working on and growing my business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We do not get the opportunity to go into Atlanta as much as we would like, but we do love the Georgia Aquarium. And no visit is complete without exploring the World of Coke and having our guests try the Beverly. We love taking people to the Savoy Automobile Museum, the High Museum, and Tellus. Each museum is distinctly different but they have something for everyone. We are pretty simple and enjoy eating at the different Taco Mac locations around the area. We are starting to explore again more since Covid restrictions have been lifted.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my husband, Eric. From day one, he believed in me and my ability to create new things. He has always encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone while being a voice of reason at times. He lets me bounce new ideas off him and will help me hone in on how to create my vision for a project.

I also want to that my customers for their purchases that support my small business. I love it when a customer asks for a custom piece, but gives me the freedom to create it for them. Repeat customers are the best because I know they love my work.
