We had the good fortune of connecting with Gia Compton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My personal accomplishments as well as my strengths as a strategist and advisor originates from inquisitiveness  and sound intuition about what may be possible to achieve and not being wed to the expected/traditional model or process. I am willing to try a different path  with simultaneous regard and disregard for the existing path. One of my favorite thought leaders, Daron K. Roberts, wrote about the battle of courage vs. self-doubt and fear. In the end he encourages us to “stay in the deep end”. The deep end is my native habitat.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am an attorney and a strategist who is an avid supporter of the arts in all forms. Business relationships develop more often than not for me because I first become a fan. I say I have the best clients because I do…. sharp, genuine, innovative and diligent people with energy that I enjoy. I am outcome focused strategist. Once I understand the objective I am really good about dissecting regulatory frameworks and turning over unique approaches to accomplish the objective. I have faced many of same constructs that my clients face and I am fierce about pushing past those constructs. I have a successful record of supporting ventures with legal counsel, issue spotting and strategic thinking.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1: After browsing books and  African coffee at the Black Dot Cultural Center we would start a full day of services at Heal Thyself Atlanta. It is the perfect spot to reset. We would finish the day with dinner at Nan Thai. Day 2: We  head to Little Five Points for shopping and vibe infusion at Moods Music. Criminal Records and Sevanada would be on the Little Five points itinerary as well. We would drive down to Nash Farms to look at the aquaponic development underway led by Chrystal York, have an archery lesson and meditate with fishing rods on the lake as the sun sets. Day 3: We head to my law school alma mater to tour the Carlos Museum at Emory University. I can spends hours there connecting to ancestral energy. Next we would meet my teachers at Black Silt Yoga for a kemetic yoga session. For dinner, we head to Taco Pete for the stuffed shrimp quesadilla. Day 4: We have a great brunch at Le Colonial and head with our clubs to hang out at Bobby Jones Golf Course with  the  future leaders of Atlanta being prepared by Young Gents, Inc. and founder Kesha Clinskscale. We head to Skyline Park at Ponce City Market for one of the best views of the city. Day 5: It’s live performance day! We are going to see  the best of the best Atlanta musical performers Kameron Corvet or Lori Williams. Next, we head to the Atlanta Comedy Theater to catch Trey Moe on stage.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son is an amazing human being. I am grateful for his example and I aspire to be like him. I have known my husband for 45 years and it is has been significant to have had a constant in my life. I have a splendid group of stand ready people I have known for decades that I am grateful to be known by them as a friend. Recognition goes to my APS third grade teacher Mrs. Laura Ammons. She remained a member of my village well beyond third grade as she did for many of her students. She was an iconic educator who taught me first to push the envelope.
