We had the good fortune of connecting with Germyah Heart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My role as a Healthcare Professional continues to grow daily. I am a student of the game. I enjoy learning new things and sharpening my skills. My marathon has been in effect for seven years now. Each year, my goal is to grow and develop. I am very dedicated to my career, and I take pride in the brand that I am building. My name is all that I have, I work overtime to ensure that my name is associated with positivity, impact, and growth. Hard work and dedication are two things that set me apart from others. I did not come from much. I am one of six children from Milwaukee, Wisconsin that grew up in poverty. Where I was grateful to make it out of the city especially when the odds are not always in my favor.

As I continue to grow in my career, I am excited about what the future holds. I am a private person, so I will not speak much about what I am up to currently, but you will see it soon. Every day, I put in work to achieve my goals. My drive is immaculate, and I thrive off success. I am in this space because I earned it. I live by the quote, “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” And I’m hungry for success, so I am working daily. It’s a sacrifice! There are times when I have to lock in and tune out social media and the world around me to remain focused. This is not an easy journey, if it was everyone would do it. There are trials and tribulations that I had to overcome and continue to battle in my career.

Overcoming adversity continues to remain prevalent in my career. Remaining strong, positive, and persevering has taken me far. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is to not stress about things that you cannot change. Oftentimes, we as perfectionists want things to work out whereas the slightest inconvenience will cause us to become stressed. I am learning to adapt to this.

My brand is bigger than me. The work that I am doing is bigger than me. This is my way of life. I do it for the youth. The people who look like me or may have similar backgrounds. Sometimes all you need is the motivation for reassurance that you can achieve greatness.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am still fairly new to Atlanta and with my busy schedule, I do not get out much. My best friends and I are brunch girls. We love a good brunch where the aesthetics are pleasing to our eyes and personalities. So, we would likely open TikTok and find a nice brunch spot that fits us. Also, we love going to the Spa. There is a spa in Buckhead called the Buckhead Massage Company that I love. The massages are great, and the staff is amazing. I still have to visit Six Flags here in Georgia. I know that they have a waterpark site and an amusement park. Although I am not much of a roller coaster girl, I love the waterpark. When visiting Atlanta, it is impossible to come and not visit the zoo and the aquarium. They are to die for.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Before we start, I would like to say Ramadan Mubarak to all of my brothers and sisters. Allah is the greatest. Without him, we are nothing. Allah has made it possible for me to succeed in my career. I am forever grateful.

My parents are my world. They’ve done an amazing job raising me and helping me grow and develop into the woman I am today. My parents are extremely supportive, they stick by my side through it all. So, thank you, Mom, Dad, and bonus parents.

In the academic space, there were a plethora of Black women who poured into me. I have my mentor, Dr. Stacey Godley, Dr. Erica Cassimere of Texas Southern University, Dr. Sonya Good of Texas Southern University, Dr. Elaine Archie-Booker of Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. Carla Willis of Morehouse School of Medicine, and Dr. Natalie Hernandez of Morehouse School of Medicine.

Friendships are important. I value and cherish each of my friendships and relationships with others. My friends are a powerhouse, I have not seen anything quite like it honestly. They show up for me, they make me feel whole, and pick me up when I am down. To name a few: Payton Wade, Smaryha Deal, YaMonie Arnold, Kennedy Weston, Quantejia Champion, Emerald Green, Tamira Langston, Demonte Bonner, Darren Evans, KJ McHenry, Vincent Fisher, Deviion Marshall, Jamar Stevenson, Rana Maryan Salazar, Eutarius Berry, Zakiya Percy, Tiarra Jarmon, Gabrielle Fisher, Kamal Hughes, Samuel Freeman, Jared Bailey, Darieon McFadden, Ashleigh Lloyd, and many more.

It takes a village; I am a big advocate for family. I come from two large families, I have an abundance of aunties, uncles, cousins, and siblings. So, thank you: Kiwane Crowder, Josephine McCauley, Olivia Heart, Tasiya Heart-Nelson, Brianna Heart, Daniel Hinkle, Quinton Caery, Immanuel Harris, Mesha Benton, Zitoria and Tommie Kennedy, Malik Bentley, Tifani Lee, Kelly Goodmon and many more.
