We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerika Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gerika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process I would say is that in the film/photography starting your own business is the norm. After film school and being back home in Saint Louis , I was getting a lot of inquires of doing photography . Once I start freelancing I soon thought to just start my own business . I just like I’m doing something I love so why not turn into a business .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am in the film industry. I love telling stories to others visually . I am most excited finishing my documentary on sexual assault and the way it shapes you . It’s a project in the making but I feel it so important to make people aware of . It’s never easy in this industry and I always face challenges. It’s hard to show the entire world your art because it is so many creatives . I wouldn’t change my path though. My story or stories might help someone out there . I just want to world to see Gerika as who she is and maybe relate . Everyone is different but we all trying to navigate .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my mom . My mom is my rock and number one supporter. I didn’t have my mom in my childhood but once she came back she shape me into the woman I am today . Also shoutout to all my loved ones . They know who they are ❤️
